2012 Chevrolet Caprice PPV

New wheels went on recently. I haven't washed the car to get some good pics yet, so this will have to do for now. It snowed 2" and the city shut down. I left work early.

I didn't park there! Dang thing slid down the driveway on its own after I was in the house. Under the inch of snow is an eight inch of ice.

It's possible, and I'm sure somebody has, but why? The bolt pattern is slightly off, which makes some feel unsafe.

5 on 120 mm (4.72") is what this car has
5 on 120.65 mm (4.75") is what a 4th gen F-body has

More commonly, you'll see guys with 5th and sometimes 6th gen Camaro wheels. The width and offset on some Camaro wheel models is weird, making the wheels stick way out past the fenders, but usually they look good.

2nd gen CTS-V wheels fit, as do late model Malibu, Impala, and some BMWs. Obviously so do other Aussie Holden wheels, but those are fairly rare in the states. G8 and GTO wheels fit.
 
I noticed a ticking sound yesterday morning during a short drive with my boy. I was driving spiritedly prior to the noise becoming audible, but had shifted at a conservative 5500 rpm. If this short rip caused it, I can't say. I doubt it though. Maybe the straw that broke the LS camel's back?

The L77 motor had Active Fuel Management aka Displacement On Demand from the factory, and mine has been deleted with an aftermarket camshaft according to the previous owner. I have the cam spec sheet and it clearly has a cam in it from the exhaust note, so I don't doubt him. I wouldn't think he'd have reused the stock lifters, but it's possible. It's also not outside the realm of possibility that the aftermarket lifters have failed.

When we got home from our short errand, I tightened all the header and collector bolts, some of which were loose. The noise persists.

The tick sounds to be coming from cylinder #6, but that's just from using a screwdriver stethoscope with the motor idling. The idle is smooth and no check engine light. I haven't checked for codes yet.

I think it could be:
-Exhaust leak (98% ruled out)
-Loose/bad spark plug (unlikely, since it's running smooth)
-Bad/dirty injector (?)
-Loose rocker arm / worn rocker arm trunnion
-Bent pushrod
-Collapsed lifter
-Wiped cam lobe

It's a tick not a knock, so I don't suspect bearings or anything in the bottom end.

Anything else I should be checking for? I'm going to drive the Jimmy on my 40 mile round trip commute until I get this sorted.
 
These engines are known for stuck lifters. There's Youtube videos of guys shooting solvent down the pushrod to free them. Might be worth a shot before tearing it all down.
