Oy Vey! Well Going in to the Park on Willow Flats was ok it has a few areas where you get some small rocks in the wash areas. Nothing a stock rig (not lowered) can't do. There are a few nice photo spots along the way.
I went in to Arches N.P. on the Willow Flats road/trail there were some spots that you had to go slowly over due to small rocks. Nothing a stock rig can not do. Once on pavement nothing to report except take lots of pictures of the rock formations and vistas.
So off the pavement to the Salt Flats road/trail. Now mind you that the Red Rock Wheelers said it was a five. I am thinking no way when I saw the cars going on it. Then I came to the turn off!
Here we see the start of the 4x4 trail with a Jeep going up before me. It was at this point I had to lock the hubs and put it in granny low. This section is rough and rocky; it is NOT for newbies or low experience. The National Parks recommends running it from North to South. So after the 1.7 miles of being bounced and shaked about you come to level ground with some minor sand.
Then at the fork to go South or go on to Tower Arch.
With lots of sand on trail we went South to re join Willow Flats road.
A short way in we came to a little rock in the road by holding to the right side it is easy obstacle. This was where we started in the sand box. It started to get a littler deeper as we went further in to the interior. Our troubles were just about to start. We were now encountering sand in places up to six inches in spots and blind curves.
Many Places we were at a 30 to 45 degree angle due to the sand ruts and almost flipped the rig on its side twice (talk about pucker factor!!! Several Places made me think of my old days patrolling the boundaries of a non existence base in Nevada.
So to summarize things the Willow Flats road in is OK and the paved roads are OK too. The run would seem to be enter the park through main entrance I will cover up to 10 vehicles on the entrance fees. To lunch at the devils garden area and then once the loop in park is done head out the Willow Flats road.
Let me know who is still interested.
