203/205 doubler on a 465 any shorter adapter?

My Jimmy has a factory 465/208 combo. There is an 8" long tube shaped adapter between the two. I have been looking at ORD's 203/205 doubler set up but, they told me they don't make the short 465 to 203 adapter anymore and that I'd have to run my current one.
I was wondering if OEM 465/203 combos ran a shorter adapter than my 8" one. Would the older setup be a good swap to reduce drivetrain length, or are there any problems with the older setup (like maybe weaker 465 output shaft, IDK)? I've found an OEM 465/203 setup for sale and I'd like to know if it'd be worth it. Thanks!:D

The O.E.M. 465/203 adapter is much shorter than the 465/208 adapter - I'm going by memeory but I think it is about 4" or so long .
The real draw back of this set up is the driveline slop that the corse 10 spline output gives. If all is in good shape it is totally liveable but not as sweet as a fine 32 spline set up .

I run a short adapter and ORD 32 spline short 465 output with a 32 spline 203 input. The best of all of the worlds.;)

Chaddy: I really don't know. I guess $2500 or so t-case budget. $3000 absolute max.

tarussel: 10 splines, yeah, I was afraid of that, I kinda thought that'd be the case.:(

'79shortbox: Hmm, I guess I need to speak to ORD again. The impression they gave me was that they don't sell the short 32 spline short shaft anymore. I'll call 'em again tomorrow if I get a chance.

Thanks for the info y'all!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, another reason why I am concerned about length is 'cause I'm thinking of running a t-case mounted e-brake since the 14BFF I bought has non-ebrake style calipers.

They may not sell it anymore, I got mine about a year ago so I don't know. Hope they do for ya cause it is a nice setup.

There are thoughts along that line, rest assured! :D
Options I am considering thus far:
203/205 combo
205 Lo-max
Atlas 3.8
The Atlas and the Lo-max would be easier than the 203/205 combo but, I like the versatility of two differnt low ranges. Or, to be really sick-low, what about 203/Lo-max combo: 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 6:1 lotsa choices! I think that'd be too much coin though!

Another idea is a Stak box for more low range options but, I haven't seen a build of one being put into a K5 plus, I don't know Stak pricing. So, I have yet to put too much thought into that route.

Any other beefy t-case options I have missed?

Thanks for the info guys, keep it coming!:D

For the price range you are considering I would seriously consider looking at the 3 speed Atlas and the 3 speed Stak.

Shorter and lighter than a doubler setup. With all the parts you will have to throw at your current setup to get the doubler you want, you will be in the same price range.

The 10 spline input/output on the 465/205 setup wears easily (unless you have a new one, they are likely pretty worn) and they are significantly weaker than anything else in the setup.

I'm thinking about the Lomax with a custom 465-205 adapter (one that I would make, allowing me to use a factory 32 spline setup). The adapter would also allow me to have a flat belly. Of course, I would rather have an Atlas or Stak but the Lowmax with adapter will be less than $1500 for me.

Talked with ORD, I am on the waiting list for the short 32 spline 465-203 shaft! They said they're being made right now so, it'll be about a month. Going to be ordering a 203/205 combo w/ 2" clocked 205, triple sticks, short shaft w/ matching adapter, 1410 u-joints. Wow, what $ but hey, it's the exact combo I wanted before they told me it was unavailable. Now, it's available and I am happy! Won't be able to put it in 'til february (or maybe even later) but, it's part of my parts accumulation for the winter build!:D

Dunno if you or anyone else is still curious, but you can kinda see the factory 465/203 adapter in these pics of my old rig-

TruckNutzDude: They are gonna call me back with an exact quote.

KidJethro: Thanks for the pics! Yep, I am going with that adapter, my stock one was way long at 8&3/8", the shorter adapter will give me 4" more rear driveshaft length. I really like the looks of yours, turned out slick! What did you end up doing for a crossmember set up?

38377k5: I agree, for the price I'm probably getting toward the Stak and 3 spd Atlas but, I had my heart set on a 203/205 doubler. Don't worry though, I will be running 32 spline! Those other options are sweet though!

When I originally called ORD about the 203/205 doubler, I was told they weren't carrying the short 32 spline shaft. That prompted me to look at other options but, now that they have told me they have the custom shaft, I want to go with the original plan again!:D Guess I shoulda called them again before I posted this thread!:doah: Thanks for the ideas and pics everybody!

x-members-

This pic was before the driveline showed up from High Angle. I had to really re-work the front x-member to make it work with the driveshaft-

This one is what I had to do to make the thing clear the driveshaft-

Since my doubler adapter was an older Gen1 ORD setup, it used a factor 10 spline 465/205 adapter bolted to the back of the adapter plate. My front drive shaft was looooong. And 32 spline is over rated I think...My entire setup was 10 spline from front to back, minus the 30 spline front output of the 205. My rig was a heavy bitch with a goodwrench 350 small block, 42" tsl's, 5.13's, detriot in the 60 and welded 14b. I never broke a thing. And I ran all the tough trails at the Hammers. The key is to not drive like a jack ass. Nothing is stronger than stupid. Even 32 spline stuff.

This is the rig- may she rest in peace!

Good video? You mean great video!
Thanks for the pics! Got a question for ya: Do you not have that sweet looking truggy anymore?

The steep waterfall looking climb was crazy looking, you were rocking on just your back tires, wow!:eek1: Looks like you got some very good use out of that truggy! 10 splines appear to have served ya well! Thanks for sharing the pics and video, great stuff!

No, I don't have it anymore. Basically lost it due to a women. Long story...don't ask. :eek1:

It did go out with a bang though. After I sold a few things from it, some friends aquired what was left and entered it in the tuff truck thing at the fair a couple years ago. Destroyed it in about 45 seconds. Pretty fun to watch it get about 8 feet of air off the second jump and land like a lawn dart on the stinger! :haha: Soooo many camera flashes went off! Broke the 14b housing like a twig, and bent EVERYTHING else. I was really surprised that it was still mobile. This is what it looked like in the pits-

The guys that aquired it made up this funny lookin DOM tube front axle with D44 stuff welded on the ends...Just for the tuff truck. Notice how bent it is. 3.5" .500 wall DOM.

This guy towed his blazer almost 150miles just for this event, and did this within about 25 seconds of the flag drop.-
