I havent seen this asked before and i was mondering. how do you drill and tap a 203 for the round 6 bolt pattern? i know how to drill and tap so thats not what i am asking for;) how do you know how much rotation to put on? Im planning a 700r4/203/205. ive rounded up the 203 and already have a 700r4 w/ 208 adapter and a clocking ring. i can use the clocking ring as a templet right? now its just a metter of getting that ring into the right place. also can i go to deep with the holes or does it not matter?

a lil but not really. it still doesnt help me figure out the rotation and how deep to go w/ the holes.

can't really help you with the clocking, but i know the top hole on a 208 adapter is straight up. also if you use a clocking ring, make sure to get it to the right clocking. it is NOT symetrical, IIRC one bolt is off from the other ones.

You are taping straight through the 203 so no depth issues, just make sure you bolts dont hit the gears. Most of the doubler companies will allow you to run the 203 straight up, upside down or 90* so just shoot for the one that fits you best and order your doubler to suite. The clocking ring sits fairly snug around the 203 bearing retainer so you can just put it on and mark the hole locations.

ok so between the 2 posts, for a normal mounting setup run the range box straight up and down. cool, that sould be easy enough. oh and also pay attention to the spacing on the patter as it is not symetrical. thanks guys!

I hope this isn't old news but I am about to redrill my 203 to fit on my 241 adaptor. How do you make sure you keep the 203 straight and NOT clock it? My doubler adaptor already has the clocking so I wanna keep the 203 normal.

well id be using a clocking ring to lay it out but look at the back of your tranny and see where the holes are. just transfer the marks. kind hard to explain but it should be seay enough to do.

I can prob find another 208/241 adaptor to use so I don't have to rip my truck apart till I'm ready to swap. Is it easy to just eyeball to make sure I'm not accidentally clocking it or is there a common bolt hole that is TDC on each?

well the bottom of the 203 is going to be on the same plane as the 400. compare the rotation of the adapter on the tranny to the tranny pan, that realation should be the same as the apter to the bottom of the 203. since the faces are looking at each other make sure you are doing opposite on the face of the 203 that you would do the 400 though.

Makes sense. I'll try that, I just don't wanna have to take the truck apart and not moveable under its own power while I put the doubler together. Thank you.

Hate to bring back old news but am drilling this today finally and have a question regarding the lower shaft through the 203 range box. It sticks out a 1/4" or so on the tranny side and it hits the adaptor. I beat it back some to clear so I can try to drill the holes tonight but what do you do with it when you put it all together?
