203 splines?...what is stronger?!?!?!?!!?!?

No.All GM 203 inputs are interchangeable between all three GM versions of the 203.

What Chris said, it's the 205 that needs to have the input bearing hole bored larger for a 32 spline input.

nope the 203 range box has a larger bore for the 32 spline input.i thought i could use a 27 spline and swap the input..i was wrong.its way bigger.the case has to be machined to fit it.plus if you use a 32 spline 203 you will have to redrill the face for a 208..you can use the rare 203 from a 77 (only year) 465 but iirc that the 10 spline crap.the only thing good there is the rare adapter.im going through all of this right now.gm has to many diffrent cases :doah:

how much did ord screw ya for cus i can get a 32 spline threw 10 spline made by a local machining guy for 130:D i got dont gunna go junkyard hunting for that 32 spline 203 ive already got a 27 spline 203

$300 well spent.ORDs shafts are cut from new matirial and heat treated.Look at the matirial cost,machine time,heat treat time, and the fact that it will never break and thats a pretty good deal.

I couldnt make this for ORDs price and make any money.

You need to ask exactly what you are getting for $130.Cuz if hes just gonna cut it down and re spline it,I wouldnt run it.

the 10 spline on my 465 output is shot to say the least

I have a cherry 465 10 spline output I will sell ya.And I have a cherry 10 spline 203 input to go with it. :D

Dude...we are talking 203s here.All GM 203 inputs are interchangeable between all GM versions.All GM 203 range box castings are the same.The only thing that changes from one version to the next is the input.

My Doubler setup for example,
465 w/32 spline output,465/203 adaptor.
TH350 version 203 w/TH400 input.
TH350 version 205 w/bored case for TH400 32 spline input.

You either have your 203s and 5s mixed up or yer high.I have no clue as to what your saying about rare adaptors and redrilling 203s.

:haha::haha:

ok my 456 had a 208 so its 32s spline but you either have to change the shaft in the trans (as you pictured) or redrill the face of the 203 for the 208 adapter.straight from ords website

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Use a SM465 that was originally mated to an NP208 transfer case. This 465 will have a 32 spline output shaft with a 8 3/8" adapter housing. You'll use a NP203 gearbox with a 32 spline input gear and the face of the 203 drilled and tapped with the GM round bolt pattern to match up to the factory 208 adapter housing. This works very well if you have the available length in the vehicle since the parts are commonly available and the 32 spline connection is very strong and durable.

the 203s are diffrent.the dodge 23 spline will interchange with a 27 and the 10 spline but THE BORE on the 32 is a large dia than the 27.mabye the cases are diffrent with casting but most 32 spline in fact all ive ever seen have had a larger bore than the 27 spline

You left out that little tidbit in your first post.But there are other (easier) options available for you other than redrilling the face of a 203 for the 208 pattern or using the bling ORD shaft.

GM 203s...GM 203s...Im talking GM 203s.

I dont know how else to say it.
Im done.

So where is this 35 spline shaft coming from because GM doesn't have ANY trans with a 35 spline that i'm aware of? :crazy:

For sure, up to '80 2wd version had a 35 spline tailshaft. :wink1: I'm not sure if this changed when the 32 spline 4wd version was introduced.

So you're saying that there is a 35 spline output shaft on an auto trans?

Lets see...

Powerglide = 27 spline
TH250 = 27 spline
TH350 = 27 spline
TH375 = 27 spline
TH400 = 32 spline
TH475 = 32 spline
2004R = 27 spline
700R4 = 27 spline
4L60 = 27 spline
4L60E = 27 spline
4L80E = 32 spline

Standard trans...

SM465 = 10 or 32 spline
NV4500 = 32 spline

I'm not familiar with anything newer but doubtful that he was refering to anything newer anyways.

I believe he's referring to a 2wd 465 not an auto.Everyone agrees that the 205 32 spline input is bigger in diameter and you would have to bore a 10 or 27 spline case to accept one.Then why wouldnt the 32 spline 203 input be the same situation.That has always been my understanding.I have a 10 spline 203 and would be more than happy to mic the input bearing if somebody has a 32 spline 203 to do the same with.

Unless you have a good 10 spline 465/203 combo I would build a 32 spline set up instead.I have had several and alot of them have the splines on the trans output wore badly.The splines will be round on the ends instead of flat,I have even saw them wore so bad that they were almost a razor redge on em.

If he's just using the range box on the 203, there's a big huge hole where the range box was bolted onto the rest of the transfer case.

For reference, I think I bought a 10spline rangebox from you a while back and swapped in a 32spline input no sweat.

I could go out to the shop and measure several of any of the three different versions...but its pointless .

over head in a biss can drive up prices.

if you dont like them go someplace else.

and please dont bash to loud around here like that. thay have good service and parts.

and is your local guy heat treating the item? if not i bet it might wear out 10x faster or worse blow up first hard use.

i have seen some cut aways of heat treated stuff and found the core or center is not hardened like the out side wear the big wear section is.

might want to do a bit more research first before you get that cheep 130 part. and man at 130 he sounds like he might be out of biss soon thats super cheep or he ows you a big favor.

the reason its 130 for the output is cause hes just resplining it and yes he heat treats them. hes charging me 180 for the 203 shaft because hes got to just cut splines alltogether in it because there arent any. thats being heat treated to. he charges what he does because its his specialty he can prolly knock them out quick i wouldnt be surprised if ord has to send their stuff out to be made and thats why its the price it is which i understand. i have no problem with that. i guess i just like doing it myself its much cheaper

what about the hole on the range box?

why wouldnt you run it? its not like hes adding any metal ya know what i mean. hes just gunna take the 35 splines off and make it 32 (ive decide to just go 32) and then hes gunna heat treat it. i dont really see how that could be a problem its a legit guy not just some person i met in some dark ally
heres his site

but i want to hear your opinion ill admit i dont have oober amounts of experience with strengths of output shafts and whatnot ive never had one break is all i can say..
