ok... for my 3500 ctd conversion...

I heard a rumor that it is possible to modify a 32 spline late model chevy 205 case into to a 29 spline dodge by
1) obviously replacing the input gear
2) boring the case for the dodge bearing

any one have any experience with this,,, my chevy 205 is still like new and I hate to sell it for a used dodge one Id have to rebuild anyway

I want to run a dodge later model od auto tranny

thanks

Don't sell it. Keep it for future as you never know what the next truck you buy will be.
I'd just find another 205, in your case, a Dodge 29 spline unit, and keep the GM 205 for the next truck you buy, that is, if you get something that you can install the 205 into.
These GM 205's are too valuable to just let go and get rid of. If you ever got rid of it, you would probably kick yourself later and wish you never did.

personally I'm going 241 route for the CTD swap. A ford 205 would be more likely a good choice in my book. Reason? exhaust. The turbo and downpipe are on the driver side. If you want to have anything bigger than a 2.5" exhaust pipe I think you will need to clock the tcase down or go with a driver side drop. Most of the CTD guys are still running their 241s and I have rarely heard of an issue from them with the case. They aren't bashing them off rocks like K5 guys ;). Could consider the Dodge 203 to Ford 205 Doubler idea too :). Of course why would you need that? hehe.

Converting the GM 32spline 205 to Dodge 29spline is just a matter of swapping input gears. The 29spline Dodge gear takes the same input bearing has the 32spline but it has external splines and requires a sleeve like the 10,23,27splined 205s.In other words the od of the shaft has the same dims. has the 32spline input but necksdown to 29splines.
I have heard of this conversion with the early fiqure 8 cases because Dodge and GM used that pattern!

Look what he says here.

CTD means Cummins Turbo Diesel so therefore it would be 29 spline.

Thank you for holding my hand, but I know what CTD means. I was simply asking if Dodge automatics had a 29 spline output, because I thought only the Getrag used a 29 spline output. I thought the autos used 23. I am only talking about pre 94 trucks that actually still had the 205.

I believe "Atho" has it correct on the 23/29 splined 205's .

Im certainly confused... I have been told that the autos were 29 and the sticks 23... did I get it backwards?

You need to stick with a figure-8 pattern 205 & round-pattern adapter to utilize the the 29-spline setup.

is that a dodge 205 or a chevy with the dodge adapter on the front... thanks for the answer,,Im getting it clearer now

I can use my chevy 205...
I need to find a 29 spline dodge input gear
I need to find the figure 8 to round dodge 205 adapter....

The pic is a Dodge 205.

I would try to find out what spline the 95+ Dodge auto is.... because if it is still only 23-spline, the 32-spline GM case has the wrong input bearing size.

Email from Northwest FAb....

sound like nice people... if I go this route Ill do biz with them

Cameron,

We do have that input gear available the price is $155. As for
mating it to your dodge tranny, assuming the 32 spline case you
have is a round pattern you will need to redrill the front fave to
the dodge ford pattern. You wont have to bore the case out because
the 32 is already a large bore case. You will also have to check to
make sure the adaptor you have will be the correct length to work
the the male input gear and coupler. If the coupler is needed it
will be $89. Let me know if there is anything more I can do for
you.

Thank You

What do I need to bolt up my figure 8 pattern GM 205 to my round 6 pattern of my dodge NV4500 in my conversion? Its a 95 12V ctd into a 81 chevy 1ton crewcab with a th400/205 in it. I would like to simply bolt up the 205 to the NV4500 but I doubt its that easy.
