did some digging around my pile of stuff to sell the other day.

found this between a shift boot and the shift boot trim ring. its held in by 1 screw and adjustable.

anyone got a idea on make / years it was used on for a history on it. thanks.

figured you b454rat or thatk30guy would know.

i not sure its even gm use. got it in a pile of parts from friend who use to junkyard hunt for 205 parts to resell. he was gona toss a bunch of left over stuff for scrap. but i gave him a better price than scrap. then i found this in it.

unless i get a rare info sell it price i will prob keep it and strip it and redo the satin black paint job on it and use it in my show truck build.

I seem to remember seeing those on the early, early 70's trucks. Not a common piece but I do remember seeing them on first-design trucks. I just never realized they were removable until now but then again I never tried messing with one to remove it. Interesting piece here.

How did it fit? Rectangle retaining ring on top, i.d. plate, then boot? I can see the adjustable slot fitting the middle screw on the side of the plate to hold it down. I also notice that surface is still "black" where the number/letters are scuffed from wear and tear.

yep ring / plate / boot / floor pan.

and all black but tops of letters buffed for shine of letters to help i.d. position.

My 1979 Chev has one but it is not original. I swapped out the 203 and when I got a 205 there was no shift pattern on the knob so I found one of those floor mount pattern plates. So vehicles came with the pattern on the knob or the floor, im not sure what year or trim level determined it though.

well its striped / cleaned / painted

few coats of satin black.

before = pic 1

after = pic 2

and thanks for all the info guys.
