205 shifter whine

When my NP-205 had it's shifter pivot bolt snap off in the adapter,I drilled it out and re-tapped the hole bigger and tapped it. so a 1/2" bolt could screw into the adapter, the original bolt had a shank about 5/8" ,but the threaded part was only 3/8" I think...it couldn't bear up to the stress of shifting a ice cold t-case one frosty winter morning and it snapped..shifter fell down to the floor!..:doah:

When I re-assembled it with a 1/2" bolt,I found a needle bearing (similar to a spindle bearing) in a junk drawer that happened to fit nice in the shifter, and it had a 1/2" bore..I used an allen bolt and some wavy washers, and two torrington needle thrust washers I had in the same drawer of stuff to take up any end play so it couldn't buzz and rattle and be annoying...

Like these, pictured below....it worked out well..

I still wished the pivot bolt had a brace from its head to another mounting point though, you could see it still flex some when you shifted it..I kept it well lubed to keep stress off it as much as possible..
