I had someone tell me that the 208 transfer case is a shift on the fly style case. Is this true? Or do you need to throw it into neutral before?

thanks

Kind of. You can shift between 2hi & 4 hi at slow speeds in gear. 4lo requires stoping and putting it in neutral and I wouldn't recommend trying to grab 4hi at over 25mph.

ive gone down the road at 55 and shift it into 4hi. no problems at all. just make sure your hubs are locked in, unless you like a grinding sound.

yup i'd say shift on the fly til around 30mph but who needs to switch to 4hi at 55??

I couldn't imagine doing that, because that'd mean I was doing 55mph in 4LO!!!!!

i meant shifting from 2hi to 4hi at 30 tops. from 2hi/4hi to 4lo i'd say you should be stopped before shifting

it was winter and i thought it was in 4hi but was slipping around, looked down, 2hi, so i kicked it into 4hi. may not "suppose" to do it, but i did and nothing bad happened then or any other time. i just let off the gas so both the front and rear were both spinning the same speed.

i asked a very similar question on here about a year ago and got the same answer, pretty much. i was specifically asking about the time i was driving on ice in 2wd, and threw it into 4hi durring a slide. worked fine, but i wanted to make sure i wasn't killing it.
