Is there any adjustment that can be made or is it something inside the case I'm going to have to deal with? When I throw the shifter lever in 4hi, within a few seconds of moving the lever is back in 2wd. Stays just fine in 4lo, just moves by itself out of 4hi.

Im intrested in this too. Mine does the same thing but out of 4 low and into 4hi

Yes, the linkage rod is adjustable. You need to be under the truck to do it. Mine doesn't have a pinch bolt, it's a threaded rod style. What I did was disconnect the rod from the shifter by pulling the cotter pin. Manually put the t-case in 4hi by hand, make sure the rear is jacked up for this so the weight of the vehicle is not on the gears. Then put the shifter inside the truck into 4hi. Then adjust the rod to fit into the hole at the bottom of the shifter without binding. And replace the cotter pin. Run the shifter through it's gears (engine off and still jacked up) to make sure everything clicks into place properly.

Also check, while you move the t-case lever by hand, that it "pops" into every gear selection, mainly 4hi N and 4lo. This will tell you if the shifter detent has a problem or not.

Another popular problem for the NP208 coming out of gear is the plastic pads on the shift fork inside the t-case. If they are worn/broken they will not engage the gears properly and it will pop out of 4hi.

Hop under the under the truck.....
Locate Transfer Case.

There is a "shift rod" that comes out of the top of the TC....
It connects to the "TC shifter rod", via 2-nuts.

Loosen the nuts.
Shift the TC, by hand, into 4HI. (all the way toward the front.)
Then shift the TC SHIFTER into 4HI.

NOW,
Adjust the two nuts, so you have a decent amount of pressure holding the TC rod in place....

The reason it slips out of 4HI, is the lack of "pressure" from the shifter rod.
The pressure holds the TC shifter in place.

It took me 3 adjustments to get it to "click" in....
You want the click!

fwiw, mine hasn't popped out since.

(If this doesn't stop the problem, you have a Range or Thrust Fork issue.)
Fork issue means rebuild... I know where to get ALL the parts, if need be.

*Most sites list "rebuild kits" that don't include ALL the Needle Bearings, or fork pads. ;)

Sounds like the shift fork pads are toast and need replacing which obviously means opening the t-case. There is an adjustment though for the shifter rod but from your description your issue is the shift fork pads.

Shift the TC, by hand, into 4HI. (all the way toward the front.)
Then shift the TC SHIFTER into 4HI.

All the way forward would make it 4lo, wouldn't it? For an NP208?
Shift pattern on the shifter is (front)2hi 4hi N 4lo(back)
Either way, all the way in one direction would get you 2hi or 4lo, not 4hi.

That wasn't the answer I wanted to hear Scott lol. You wouldn't happen to have a diagram of what I'm up against when I get to it?

I meant as far forward as it'll let you, by hand.... lol.
Guess that was a little tooo vague...
