I think I figured out my issue. It is not pinion angle but play between the tail shaft and slip yolk. I have about 3inches of the slip yolk showing outside the tcase and was wondering if you all had about the same(or do I need a longer shaft?) I am dealing with a vib/chatter at freeway speeds between accell and decel.

I am going to get another tcase and stab it in.

it may also be the angle that the shaft is running...i have this issue currently, esp since my rear shaft is shorter again after putting in the 80e and not dropping the t-case any. Back with the dropped case and longer shaft, the noise stopped. More angle again and its back. i just deal with it and leave my foot somewhat on teh throttle when it starts to make that racket.

Yah I just added longer rear shackles and I have tried all combo's on the pinion angle, all with no change in the chatter. I now have it pointed up towards the tcase. I have a good drop on the tcase and can not go any further down with it(and not remove the oil pressure sender on the back of the motor.) I am feeling some small play at the back of the tcase between the splines mating up and that is where the chatter is.

I do need to know how much yolk is showing as a comparison to see if I also need to extend the drive line a bit.

what transmission do you have?

I have the exact same problem only I don't get vibes, just the chattery sound. Its not the ujoint either.

ive had a few inches sticking out, its better to have it out a little farther than to bottom out on it. you will knock that cap out of the end and start leaking out of the yoke.

Mine does the same thing Ed and it is the shaft angle. I think the detroit adds to the effect. Mine sounds like rocks in the Tcase when I am coasting at certain speeds. With a flip and the wheelbase we run a CV is almost a requirement for vibe free driving.

yah it is not a vib like pinion phaze but a nasty chatter and only at high drive line rpms (40 and above) I was under it on the rack and traced it to the rear of the tcase with a stethescope and you could really put a finger on it. Can you run a Cardan and a slip yolk? What about an actual CV off an ifs axle.

I bugs the crap out of me.

could I shim the axel to help this?

Depending on the lift I would try shinning it 1st. It was gone with 4deg shims and stock springs and shackles on a ORD shackle flip. I also dropped the tcase as much as possible. Once I started jacking with it again(upgrades) it is back and worse than ever.

absolutely:

Is that off a caddy? Wade @ drivelines said it was to heavy to put on a slip yolk. he will make it if I want it though. Iss there a lighter cardan to use?

yeah thats the one from a caddy, i have had nothing but problems with it. you could be right. i never thought about that but the people who built it had no problem doing it.

well it all started when they built it BENT. wallered out the tcase. didnt know it though. pit in a new shaft, wore out the socket. new tcase bushing and bearings. same wore out shaft. wore out tcase bushing and bearing. cracked the slip yoke fixed it. NEW tcase, new shaft, bad motor mounts, pinion angle changed now, wore out shaft. took it out and replacing it with a burb shaft.

less than 10k miles.

i attributed this to having a bent driveshaft, but it is extremely heavy.

what about lightening it a bit or using a smaller cardan. I can grab cardans off a front driveshafts for a discovery. I wonder how strong they are comparativly. they are awd vehicles but the joints are kinda small.

Guess it is time to go talk to Wade again.
