not sure if this goes here but ill try anyways! I have a junky old 4 speed with a 205\203 cases and switching to auto. Question is i can get a 1984 chevy turbo 400 and 208 tcase, what spline will they be?? and im not sure what spline im running either so kinda in a bind. Im going to have to drop mine out to see.

thanks guys

th400 factory was 32 spline .

and if round pattern on the 4 speed it would be 32 spline also .

if figure 8 pattern on old 4 speed would be 10 spline.

hope this helps.

Originally....

4spd = 10 spline
Th350 = 27 spline
Th400 = 32 spline

The ORD 32 spline conversion shaft for the 4spd is a little expensive so it's not common. My bet is the 4spd / doubler combo is 10 spline.

Why would you replace an SM465 and a doubler with a TH400/NP208???

Tossing the 208 going turbo 400 with the 203/205. I always wanted to wheel a 4 speed everyone said there great. Well ever sinse i got it i hate it lol. And im a die hard manual transmission driving kinda guy.

Maybe you should think about upgrading to a different manual. There are other options out there that shift way better than that transmission. From one manual guy to another, dont defect man. You will regret it the second that thing leaks, slips, isnt in the right gear to you etc.

The nv4500 is a better transmission, strong, has OD and granny 1st.

Depending on your power level a late model nv3500 may work great for you. The 1st gear is marginally low at 4:1, it shifts great, just like a jeep or toyota 5 speed, and the later model ones are way stronger than theyre given credit for.

I was thinking of going to a different manual trans but i was rading and everone is going to a auto these days, probaly srage 2 shift kit and reverse the manual valve body.

If everyone jumped off a bridge...

Well you know what i mean, also depends on what kind of wheel in your doing, im in alberta where its mostly mud bogs and hill climbs, i had a built automatic jeep xj and i loved that thing then got this truck and just dont enjoy wheel in auto.

And even if i dident like it and wanted to try some kind of other trans its not much to swap back. But im sure ill be happy with an auto
