what type of MPG are you getting w/ your 8.1L, and did you do any upgrades that improved it and is it 2wd or 4wd

FOURWHEELER said they got about 9mpg average with a 4wd HD back when they first came out and recieved one to test out....

My teachers burb gets 12 at 65mph and I think 8 at 70mph, cant rememebr if its 2 or 4wd.

I've got an '03 Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab with the 8.1, six-speed manual, 4.10 rear-end and 2WD (didn't want IFS). I've been getting 14.5 to 15.0 mpg at 70 mph with the AC on. The only modifications I've made are a K&N air filter and 10W30 Mobil1 oil.
It still has the original 245/75 R-16 tires. When they wear out, I'm going to try 265's which should get a little better gas mileage.

With my '01HD 4x4 Regcab Longbed with the 8.1, I got 12 empty, and 6-7 towing. I also have a heavy right foot.
The best I think I ever got was 14.5 on the h'way.
Duramax on the other hand, I rountinely get 18-19 with a best of 21mpg. Towing I get 14-15. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
