hey i got a 03 silverado that needs new tires really bad, im leaning on getting the 285s instead of 265s, but i hear that ill need a bit wider rim?? or will 285s work ok?? let me know.. the tires is from this place

and this is my truck i want to put the tires on. or go ahead and get 265 all terrian tires?? this is my dd truck..

photos that needs to be sorted out 127.jpg

I run the 285s on my D max truck. The work on the stock rims ok. The rim is to narrow so the tire is real round on the top. I am wearing the center of the tire tread out faster than the outsides.

I only run 30psi in the rears and the outsides of the treads still don't touch the ground.

i have ran 285's on my '99 silverado with stock rims and never wore out just the center. you'll be fine.

can anyone add pictures so i know what it would look like.. thanks.. high tech retreading area good? how many miles would i expect out of them??

i don't have any pics. it'll look alot better with filled up wheel wheels. does your truck sit level front to back?

man i wouldn't put retreads on any of my trucks cause the tread could come off and destroy your truck

yeah. its like 2 inches higher in front by cranked t bar, and an inch higher in back by new shocks with springs on them.

high percent of tractor trailers ride retreading tires??

A 285 is only about 3/4" wider than a 265, so it really shouldn't make much of a difference.

The 2500HD and such trucks reference only have a 6.5" rims stock, while the 1/2 tons (1500s) have a slightly wider rim, I think 7" wide...not much difference in rim widths, but also not much difference in tire widths either.

In any case both my dad and myself run 285/75's on stock 2500HD rims, but neither of us have enough miles on them to give a good reading in regards to wear. Both of us wore out a set of 265's with no unusual wear in the center of the tread so I can't imagine a 3/4" wider (3/8" on each side of the rim) would make a huge difference.

hmm whats the height difference?? im assuming half an inch to an inch...

my dad had a retread come off on him when he worked at lowes and it destroyed the lights and every thing on that side of the deleiver truck

i know alot of tractor trailers do and thats why you see all the tire treads laying all over the highways

im just saying on a nice truck i won't run a retread thats just my $.02
