The "Camel Humper"250 I-6 in my 79 C-10 bonanza had a 2 bbl "vari-jet(I called it very-junk!)that would always lay an egg when you tried to take off from a stop sign.I tried rebuilding it,new accelerator pump,etc--nothing helped. So I got mad and with the help of a machine shop for 25 bucks they helped me make an adaptor that converts the var-jet patteren to square bore 4 bbl.It now has a 600 cfm edelbrock on it--I dissconnected the secondaries because it goes just fine on the 2 primaries. It looks kinda goofy(wish I had a digital camera and knew how to use it--I'd show ya!)but it is mounted so that the primary barrels (the front of the carb)is pointing towards the drivers side fender. The weird thing is the fuel line, choke, and throttle linkage are in the same place as the stock carb.I did have to extend the throttle and detent cables, but it wasnt that hard. Now it takes off like a rocket, has much better drivability, even gets 15+mpg!!~.The only drawback is the adaptor keeps any heat from getting to the carb--great in summer, but I had carb icing problems last winter,so I had to use drygas--but I dont use it much in colder weather anyway. Now if I want I can put ANY 2 or 4 barrel on it with the help of a mr.gasket carb adaptor.I may put a holley economaster 2 bbl on it--I have one on the 307 in my van and it gets great mileage.I saved all my stock carb and air cleaner just in case it didnt work out--but I love the way it runs now--its no big block, but the tourque comes in just past idle, like my 6.2,and the truck pulls really well. All in all I like the inline motors, though the camelback isnt chevys best. The 292 is the best for tourque, but they drink just like a V8 at the gas pump.Tough as nails though, and super easy to work on!. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
