Im new here and im looking for some answers i cant seem to find. I was recently given a 14 bolt sf out of an early 80s 2wd 3/4 ton. Im thinking bout swapping it into my k5. Is there any difference in widths. I dont mind running spacers if i have to. I just need some input on if its a good swap? I cant beat it for free. Its just needs rebuilt cause its been sitting outside for a few years

I did the same swap last year. The first pictue in my build thread is with the 2wd 14bsf. I dont know the deminsions on the axle but I want to say it was very close to the stock width. Maybe an inch or so narrow. Why does it need rebuilt? Anything wrong with it visibly? spring pads and shock hangers will need moved too.

Only reason im gonna rebuild it is its been sitting outside for atleast 8 years. Mainly jus pull it apart and replace bearings and seals and clean it up. How hard of a swap was it. Do i need to find a conversion joint for the driveshaft to bolt to it or can i switch yokes around from my 10b to the 14bsf

I would pull it appart too, but if the bearings show no rust, don't change them, the seals however change them once you open it up because most likely when you put it together and think everything is good the seals decide they are too dry and start leaking.:thumb:
As for the yoke, you can't use one from the 10 bolt.
You might find a yoke that is a 1330 like the 10 bolt uses but most 14b SF are 1350.
The cheapest is to use the conversion joint, unless you need to make a new longer driveshaft for a lift, then you can make it 1350

Which conversion joint would work with it?. Im new to axles swaps so i dont really kno to much about them.

I will do a search here but if you do the search youself it's better:
look for Conversion U joint.
It should be a NAPA ujoint.

I used the yoke from my 10b for my swap. However, if your planning on keeping this setup, go 1350. Skip the conversion joints and get it done right. Cucv shafts are 1350 just FYI if you find someone parting one out.

How did you use the yoke from a 10b on a 14bsf, they are completely different. I was just holding them in my hand yesterday going thru all my yokes.:dunno:

They interchange, at least mine did. I found that out in here somewhere. My sf was out of a 92 light 3/4t if it makes a difference.

I guess it does make a difference, mine was a 79.
The pinion shaft is bigger and 33 splines.
Does no interchange with anything else.

Ok so from what im gathering here. If my yoke off my 10b wont swap over i need a 1330 to 1350 conversion joint correct

The 10bolt yoke and 14bsf yoke ARE INTERCHANGABLE. When I put my 14bsf in I didn't even need to swap yokes as the driveshaft bolted right up with the same ujoint used on the 10bolt. Try it out and see.

I agree that the Yokes are interchangeable. I had to swap the yoke from my 10bolt onto the 14bsf because the ujoints were different. I had already picked up the conversion ujoint for the swap, but decided to change the yokes instead. Worked great, no driveline mods, and no conversion ujoint.

93 14bsf - 4wd (6 lug) swapped for 91 10 bolt.
