What is the main differences in the two versions? I know the 4wd has a really long tailshaft, but is the tail shaft the only difference? And if so, does the entire tranny need tore down to swap in a 2wd tailshaft?

(asking for a friend)

Thanks!!

Mike

I think you'd have to tear it down to swap the shaft...I don't think there is any machining on the backside of the 2WD version to bolt an adaptor too either.

Ask Depdog. He has a 2wd version sitting in his shop and of course the 4x4 in his truck. He may be able to help you out.
When I helped him pull the 2wd out of the truck he was stripping it looked to me that that back just had a cover on it with the tail shaft seal that and the shaft changed and it would be a go.

Thanks I will send him a PM here in a little bit... My friend is goign to pick up a 2wd Crew Cab longbed(89) and the 465 in it pooped out. We have an extra 465 laying around that is a 4wd ine and he was wondering if it would be hard ot swap it in just to drive it home. My one friend suggested to swap in the tranny and t-case and find a similar length d-shaft...

But he wondered how hard it would be to swap the 4wd drive box to 2wd...

I used a 2WD 465 when I put the doubler in my Blazer. All you have to do is swap out the shaft.
