i have a friend with a 91 2wd suburban. Wants to turn it from 2wd to 4wd with a solid front axle. anyone know where to look to get some info on what is needed to be done. i think we have the majority of parts needed or atleast the major components. any help is greatly appreciated.:dunno:

new front hd hangers for fast easy swap to 4wd stuff. and room for upgrade later. http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=121

new heavy duty rear shackle hangers . http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=114

keep the 2wd steering box if more than 4" lift and do crossover steering.
1/2-3/4 ton http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/Dana44crossover.htm
1 ton axle http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/Dana60crossover.htm

and then swap out the front big bulky 2wd crossmember for a nice aftermarket unit . http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/enginecrossmember.htm

brake lines for lift and swap over. http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/braidedbrakelines.htm

then tranny swap or swap just the tail shaft out to 4wd and swap in drive shafts as needed.

but if you have a rolling 4wd frame same as 2wd body swap faster i think.

its all a pile of work but can be done. and there is some things i prob forgot .

oh and 25 bucks here to see all areas and pics will be the best money spent for the tech and info. some have done full write up's on this 2wd to 4wd swap.

It can be done, but it is a lot of work. I'm in the process of doing one, but just got home from work, and being lazy. Don't want to type anymore....

I tried but wasn't able to do it. Its the same as 88-99 pick ups. Style with the compositr headlights.

my post also all wrong then.

need a sas kit from few vendors that make them.

and driver side ford axle or gm pass side axle but more mods for that than ford driver side pumkin.

its been awhile since i worked on that era of trucks, but i think it will require extensive modification and fabrication to do it.

I was thinking we can use the NP208 since its the same tcase used with the 700R4. Axles from older blazer/suburban.

but you got 2wd tranny. need tail shaft swap to 4wd.

and i would skip 208. its weeker and no electric speedo guts needed for newer style speedo. find a 90-91 241 tcase stronger and speedo guts for electric inside.

if you can find ford dana 44 front or dana 60 front then just get a new body style tcase and its almost bolt in.

for 90-91 blazer burban in old 73-87-91 square body yes.

88-up new body rounded went 241 tcase and driver drop for ifs 4x4.

I am in the process of doing this. Putting a 89 2wd on a 88 4wd frame. I had to cut the trans tunnel out of the 4wd and put it in the 2wd but that only took about and hour. It would be easiest to find a junker 4x4 and use the frame, hell my buddy bought the 88 for $800 and the interior was the nicest I have seen.

I still have to seam seal it but you get the idea.
