A buddy of mine's future brother in law (that's a mouthful) is building a 2wd crew cab into a 4x4. I linked him to MRK5's thread. Who else has done a 2wd to 4x4 swap? If you have, or know of one, please put a link to it in this thread. Thanks.

Yeah, I thought about your thread, but no offense, there are SO MANY off topic posts, it would be hard to weed through, plus he is going to front leaves, not links, and that is where yours ends at.

What would you tell someone who is going to do the swap? I know some of the brackets are different, not?

Can you just bolt the factory front leaf hangers from a 4x4 to a 2wd frame?

Does he have to swap crossmembers?

Martin

The front leaves will bolt up but he may need a odd shim to correct the caster. The 2wd frame has a different slope at the body mount. All new holes will need to be drilled for the radiator support front eye let for the springs. I found it best just to weld them shut.

The cross member will need swapped it is part of the 2wd cradle.

My crew cab was a 2 wheeler.

Any suggestions?

Will the B52's bolt up to a 2wd frame? I already recommended he buy (whatever your name is for the front upper shackle hanger), as opposed to cutting a stock set off of another frame.

I swapped frames on mine...so not much help.

Don't forget to change to 4x4 engine mounts though. :doah:

B52 brackets do not bolt right on a 2wd frame. The engine crossmember should be swapped out for axle clearance. Either a homemade one or aftermarket. May as well do crossover while you're in there. Depending on the current transmisson, the floor may need to be modified.

I'm going to post now so I remember to come back and post more info on what I'd do different.

Is that a 89-91? If so the trans hump should be a "tall" one and should clear. I wish I could be more help but I went the easy way with a chassis swap.
