cant blame ya:D so why go with coils and not leaves? it so easy with leaves its almost crazy not too. i know they ride better but is it worth it to you?

Dude, I'm getting a chubby watching this build-up. I SOOOOOO want to build my '94 GMC - same colors scheme, too. I'm picturing my setup seeing your pics. (I'd leave my bed, though.)

Front suspension is gone...now i need to cut off all the extra brackets but that can wait a lil while. i had to modify the spring buckets. im gonna be running 49" springs and cause they are so short i need them to have the shackle mount moved way forward on the frame to get a good shackle angle. the frame bends so a lill cutting and alot of work with a sledge hammer later and they came out pretty good:p: hopefully ill have the springs hanging this week. *fingers crossed*

no offense intended, but from what welds I can see, the decision to bolt is a good one ;)

i inderstand...im getting better but its hard with a 100 amp stick and 3/16" and 1/4" steel:doah:the ones you can see close up are the first ones id did too so there are better ones. but for the record the are badd looking but theres plebty of penetration, im not worried about how well they'll hold. I can tell what a penetrating/ good weld looks like, even if i cant make mine look that good...:o

at the moment im waiting on some new hangers, need shackles then i need to design a new rear flip so mine will be for sale. also i need to make mounts to inboard the rear springs. all of this will happen once some more money comes through...been reall tight lately:rolleyes:

So how are you gonna attach those rear shackle hangers, just those three rear bolts? Seems kinda flimsy. It may hold, but you have a welder, so you oughta at least run a bead around the front of it. I'd weld the whole thing. Even though you say you don't like it being permanent, you're converting the whole front suspension and drivetrain of the truck and cutting a hole in the floor of the cab. Are you really gonna convert the truck back to stock?

I mean, even if you decide to change the SAS brackets or even go back, it's still gonna require fabrication, so why not bolt AND weld? Overbuild the thing. Even though it's gonna be trail-only, do you really want to rip your suspension mounts off the frame?

Also, since suspension is so important, I'd grab some extra rods and practice laying some beads on all that old 2wd stuff you got. The extra practice can't hurt.

Looks good otherwise. I'm lookin forward to seeing this thing finished! :thumb:

good thread...i'm actually thinking about acquiring my dad's 88 GMC 1500 2WD, 350 tbi, & 700r4 to build into something like this. would use a 44/14 bolt combo, 35-37s, th400/205 or keep the 700r4, divorce it and run a 205 but don't know if it'll hold up to what i plan to use it for...but i would build it as a tow vehicle for my '72 when it eventually gets done...lol. keep up the work, maybe i can steal some ideas & hopefully i can get a thread started some day...& plus it has a/c & a decent back seat for the kiddo's car seat...& for other such things that are x-rated...:eek1: :woot: :crewcab:

im gonna tap the frame and run so more bolt up from the bottom and then make some ind of brace that attaches to the bracket for support. The Reason i dont want to do it permanent is cause i dont know how long / when i might change the suspension. no way id go back to stock, just if i want to do something differant.;)
