im looking at buying a 77 k10 with a blown 12 bolt and a dana 44 up front. i want to swap in a semi floater 14 bolt and a 3/4 ton dana 44 up front. what would i need for the swap? is it a direct swap or do i need the 14 bolt swap kit? can i use my stock driveshaft with a conversion joint? if so what size conversion joint do i need? and last but notl east can i use my U bolts from the old axles or do i need new ones?

no help or thoughts or ideas? i really need to know whether i should just stick another 12 bolt in it or i should go ahead with the 3/4 ton axle swap.

they will go right in with the exception of the rear pinion ujoint. not sure on the conversion part number. and NO dont reuse your ubolts. the rears wont fit anyways.

any particular reason you chose a semi float 14 bolt?

I agree why a semi float? Unless you are trying to keep your 6 lug wheels I don't see the point of going with an axle where your wheel falls off when you break a shaft. As for the part number on the conversion u joint give me a second

Edit: Here are the Napa part numbers
Napa u-joint conversion mark
(1330)10b -(1350)14b = #447
(1310)12b-(1350)14b= #348

i dont own the truck yet but i plan on buying it and i need to throw in another 12 bolt or a 10 bolt to get the truck home because the 14 bolt axle tubes are larger in diameter than the heavy half axle tubes or i need to get it towed. however if i get it towed i cant swap the axles in once i get it to my house because i dont have a garage or a level yard and the guy im hopefully buying the truck off of does. id like to throw in an 8 lug 44 up front and a FF 14 bolt out back, but i have to order a 14 bolt swap kit or new larger u bolts, u bolt plates, shock mounts, and spring perches to complete the 14 bolt swap. are SF 14 bolts 6 lug or 8 lug?

14bsf can be either 6 or 8 lug depending on what the axle came in. and I thought that the sf and ff had the same size axle tubes so you would need the u-bolts and spring plates either way. if the axle you get is a 3/4 ton the shock mounts will be the same as the half ton so you wouldnt need them.

All you should need for the 14bff is new u-bolt plates or used from the junk yard, new u-bolts( not used) and the conversion joint. As long as it is 3/4 ton axle, it will bolt right up to your existing spring perches

i figured out i have off next week for spring break, so im thinking about just going with the 14 FF and the 8 lug 44. if i order the parts this week they should be here by next thursday. has anyone had any experience with blue torch fab, ruff stuff specialtes, barnes 4wd, or diy4x?

DIY4X is the $hit! I'd order everything that he makes if i had the money

I second that, Kert has some solid u bolt plates too. I had a good experience with blue torch fab as well.

ive made my list for the swap. barnes 4wd u bolts, diy4x spring plates, skyjacker hydro shocks from 4wheel parts, conversion joints from napa, and wheels from craigslist. do 8 lug 44's use 3" u bolts or 3 3/8" u bolts?

i actually lucked out because the 14 bolt im getting already has new shock mounts, spring perches, spring plates, and u bolts. i think im going to stay with diy4x and barnes for most of the stuff. although ruff stuff and blue torch seem to have really good stuff too. theres so many fabrication companies out there, i just found two more tonight. poison spyder customs and black widow performance. personal opinion, whos heavy duty differential covers would you go with? i really like kerts 14 bolt diff kit but the only thing im wondering is how much more fluid it holds than a stock cover and who can weld it up for me?!?!
