My 77 is a stock half ton 2wd and sits too low in the front for my taste. Would 3/4ton coils in front level it out?

Just level. I thought about the big block springs but I don't want to make the ride any worse. I just want that extra inch or two. I have noticed that the 3/4tons sit way more level then the half tons so figured it was in the front springs. I don't really care if it gets al the way level. I just think the rake it has now is just a little too extreme.

Ahh, you should be good with 3/4 springs. Although there is No way to tell how much the springs will lift it.

I guess if it raised it too much you could add a zero rate in the back to level it again

I'm unsure if the 3/4 ton springs are the same diameter where they seat in the control arm and frame, and if they are too much taller to squeeze in there even if they were the same diameter--...the ride will suffer roo, maybe even more than going with the big block or diesel springs would...maybe a pair of load leveler shocks with springs would do the trick and not make the truck ride like a dump truck..

Its starting to sound like my initial assumption is incorrect. My assumption was that the front ends all used the exact same setup just with different springs. the 1/2tons being the same spring rate as the 3/4's just not quite as tall. Maybe i'll just say hell with it and not screw around with the setup and just deal with the rake. I dont really like the idea of dropping the rear end to match the low height of the front.

All springs will fit the same pocket, I have done it.

I do know a 1 ton, bb dually spring will raise a 1/2 about 3 inches or even more.
And obviously less raise with a 3/4.

Enough to clearly run 31's

Well i guess i might just pull a set off a junk yard truck and when i work on the front end of my truck i will toss them in just for fun to see what happens. Not looking to run big tires or "lift" the truck. Just the way it sits now makes it look like the shackled up hot rods of yesteryear. Looks like i disgned it to have too much rake and thats just not the look im after. Makes it look less classy to me. And im trying to eek evry last ounce of classy out of it that i can. Hense the desire for a nice set of factory rallys and a set of 265/75-15's, the blazer rear bumper(thanks 1BEATK5), the removal of the gay "Chevrolet" banner, and removal of the gay fog lights. Im going for the a look that says, I dont have to own this truck, but its what i like and i like to keep it nice and NOT ghetto!

ever try and install coil spacers that go under/over the spring :doah::eek1::whistle:

and if all the trouble for swapin springs just get new .

dont forget full alignment after your done.

at work 1 time we did a 99-up 2wd coil spring level with 1.50" spacers. it was nice but a P.I.T.A to install. tight a$$ coils when done.

why not a spring spacer? or some of those wedges?

Not familiar with those.

These trucks have the look im after. I know they are hardly like my truck, but its the "vibe" i want my truck to give off.

You get the idea. I just want it too look like a clean DD that can still do pickup truck dutys.

seen those fall out and or bend coils before. but yes do work.

so have i, but for 10 bucks, he can see if it's the look he wants, before dropping coin on new springs, then new control arm bushings, etc... dont the 2wd trucks have problems with the control arms coming off the frame? don't think i would want to add stiffer springs to that equation, or was it just the vans?

I agree that for the hassle involved new springs are pretty cheap.

Maybe new 1/2 ton springs for an A/C truck would level it out some (springs for my ford are different between A/C and non-A/C apps. anyways), I'm sure those 34 year old springs have sagged some by now making it appear worse than it should be.

well according to LMC, the only difference in coild springs is for 454 or not. However, both upper and lower control arms are different.

3/4 ton uses bigger ball joints, thats why they are different. if you wanna put 88-98 spindles on a 73-87 you need 3/4 ton lower control arms for the bigger ball joint. Or so I have read, Ive never done the swap.
