'91 K5 Four Wheel Camper

This is the build for my 1991 V1500 Blazer, AKA the K5.3. It started out life being sold to the U.S. Government with a 350 TBI/700r4/241 combo. 4 years with a 5.3/700r4 Combo and now moving to an 8.1L Vortec and NV4500 5-speed.
Pretty much the same run/stall/run-want to burn it to the ground symptoms I had with my green 8.1 truck a while back. Crank sensor made things warm and fuzzy again.
If you can fit your big paw in there to change it out I will be surprised, I ended up changing mine from underneath the truck.

Yep reservations can be sketchy. Had a group of 4 in a vehicle try and run me off the road multiple times crossing a reservation in Minnesota. It was obvious they had been drinking. I finally just hammered the little chevy luv pickup for all it was worth. Luckily either the bomber car they were driving couldn't keep up or they were too toasted to keep up.

I was stopped in construction in South Fork Colorado, looking around at the vehicles passing and here comes a U-Haul with a square on a trailer. "Hey wait a minute, I know that blazer." So texted Zoo.

Sorry about the break down! But sometimes we just have to scoop up the rig and haul it home, or in my case part way home and someone else haul it the rest of the way.

Speaking of which my transmission should be done in the next couple weeks from blowing it in Moab!..

Robbie and I were pretty surprised when you texted me. We started laughing about getting spotted. If you had the jimmy on a trailer we would have spotted you too, but the side by side blended right in with the rest of the traffic.

We go so lucky that when we got to the construction spot the eastbound lane was moving and never had to stop.

Parts showed up yesterday. Got a GM crank sensor and proper weather pack pigtails to repair the fuel sender wiring.

Went out this morning to survey the situation. The crank sensor is behind the driver side head into the bellhousing flange. I can see it from underneath, it’s not easy to get to. Pop the hood and crawl up and over the engine feeling down it’s so tight to the firewall it’s impossible to see and it’s all by feel. Pulling the intake won’t make it any easier.

Quick text to Larry asking if he’s ever pulled the sensor in either of his trucks. Negatory. He was the the dose of reality I knew was probably the solution, but hearing it from him was dead on. Trans has to come out. Then it’s a 10 minute job. My integral release bearing is dribbling fluid so it’s got to be replaced anyway and I got to pull the trans to do that job.

So after a text from my Nephew about a car show at the high school came up I shut it down and hopped in the Nomad and went to the show.

Talked to Drew calling him back and he’s got a trans jack and is willing to help. Need to figure out a weekend and get it knocked out. I’ll help him with the K30 to knock out his flywheel replacement.

Before you do that, hear me out.

I was able to access mine from the top by unbolting the trans mount and just jacking up the drivetrain and tilting the engine forward. Might try that before you get too crazy pulling the trans.
I agree pulling the trans is the last thing I would do.
