3/4 Ton Swap is DONE: **d-shaft question**

until you nut up, move out and make a career for yourself or can keep the insults targeted at me don't come back.

when other guys like me are trying to learn a thing or two but don't you dare bring someone else into this.

What do you know about making a career for yourself Avery? Your 16

You want to learn something? Try listening to other people who have a hell of a lot more experience when they tell you to do something instead of being a know it all, especially when it has to do with a major safety aspect of your rig.

EXACTLY (oh I'm 17 btw).... that's why I'm here, do you really think I could have even imagined doing this w/o you guys? Shooot I'd still be rollin' on 10b's w/ 3.08's wondering wth was going on, lol.
I just was a little pissed when he tossed out an insult towards my boss...I have a TON of respect for him and I just won't stand for him being a d*ck towards a guy that he doesn't even know...rank on me all you want but leave everyone else out of this...thats all.

Yeah, those tabs on the caliper are there for a reason. I'll try and take a picture when it's light out, because the Skyjacker stainless lines I have fit in there perfectly when I did 'em.

And let's play nicely boys... (coming from a 16 year old )

I'm sorry but that's going too far...he is part of a 3 member team that runs one of the best machine shops in the city and surrounding area...until you nut up, move out and make a career for yourself or can keep the insults targeted at me don't come back.
I don't care if everyone likes me but enough is enough...I can take hits b/c I know guys like you do it to pump themselves up when other guys like me are trying to learn a thing or two but don't you dare bring someone else into this.

lets see... we've discussed the move out thing before, there's a couple reasons i'm still here. i 'could' do it, but havent found the right place yet, that and i want to finish the truck before i move out. its alot easier to move an assembled truck than a garage full of parts.

as for the career, i'm a factory trained, RVIA certified technician for one of the largest RV manufacturers in the country. they're getting ready to pay for me to get my CDL, and i'll be getting sent out on the road to work on $200,000+ units. i forgot about the 3 1/2 years of automotive training that i have too. you're absolutely right, maybe i should look into a career. maybe my local machine shop is looking for someone to sweep floors.

fact is, those locating tabs are there for a reason. not only will they prevent the line from spinning while installing, they'll also help to prevent it from coming loose after its installed. by advising you to remove them, your boss is in fact an idiot. they are there to serve a purpose, and its a rather important one. buy the right parts and install them, period.

BTW, we didnt bring him into it, you did. :deal:

I cut the tabs...he told me how to fix it :wink1:

fix as in it'll work...lol...he was just showing me where I needed to file to make it as smooth as possible so the front washer would make solid contact and seal.

so you're filing on the area where the washer seats? if you've got so much as a knick in it, it will leak.

:shame: New calipers - Kragens - $23 each ($52 loaded)

Tabs are there for a reason, do it RIGHT!!!

Boy am I glad I don't live in Fresno. I'd be tempted to sweeten your gas tank just to keep that death trap off the road. Maybe you should have just sold it... :surepal:

Avery you should pull the calipers from your old 10 bolt and put them on the axle in the truck. I am pretty sure you just ****ed the calipers that are on your axle by grinding on the seal area.

Agreed.

It'd be a heck of a lot easier than filing them perfectly flat just to make 'em seal, then there's the issue of them rotating on you. You do know 15" wheels clear 3/4 ton axles, right? It's only the D60's that have issues, or discs on a 14BFF. Then again, I don't remember why you're grinding the calipers down in the first place... hmmm... memory lapses are the worst.

you're mistaken. 15" wheels will NOT clear a 3/4 ton front without grinding, or 2.5" or less backspacing. they will fit over the drums on a 14FF though.

ding ding ding....even I knew that...lol

Yeah I just had a nice conversation with Beater on AIM and we got it figured out...I'll just yank the calipers off tomorrow morning and either swap the ones off of my old 10b on or go to Kragen and get more...

what did you mean by "loaded"?

what kind of an attitude is that? people make mistakes...it's not like there is some "Swapping 1978 3/4 ton axles out of a suburban into a 1985 K10 for Dummies book"...so who gives a hoot if mistakes are made...the point is that I'll get them fixed before it hits the road....

Oops, sorry. Forgot my friend's truck has 2.5" BS on his wheels (I think it looks silly with so much offset, but to each his own). So are the 8 lug calipers different? Or why do they not clear; are they that different from the 1/2 ton versions?

The calipers are the same but the backing plate moves them out slightly, just enough to have to remove the casting flash and a little from the backing plate.

Man, brakes can be so annoying... I once got a grain of sand between one of the washers and the line block, and the little bugger leaked like crazy. Wound up I gouged it, and had to replace the soft line to get it to seal

Oh well, lesson learned I suppose!
