3 to 4 build for the family : IT'S ALIVE and on the road having FUN !

test drive day around the block went not so good . :( running fine and then all it wanted to do was stall out or run crazy no middle ground . went around the 3 block loop of my area and got it back to the shop and took over a dozen times of start and stall to get it in the shop . so i checked a few things . the electric fuel pump is doing 3.5psi on a good gauge at the filter body . the edelbrock 1407 750cfm carb had the accelerator pump link on the top hole and if i recall they like the middle hole and i think on top it was flooding it out . also on the top hole i think it was making my throttle sticky / stiff . got late and didn't want to tick off the family's in the area with the exhaust she has :ears: so will try again in the am .

i re-checked the fuel lines and the 3/8" is my suction / 5/16" tank drain capped off / 1/4" return for diesel was capped off and the HUGE filler cap only vents pressure so i opened the return line to a vent .
still need shocks . was a bouncy test drive !
put dash pad on after i figure out the inop heater fan . has no power from inside to the resistor to the fan .
flush cooling system and put coolant in . water now for testing and flushing .
some more gas and road time .

few pics of the work .

did a fan switch on/on . 1 way its auto off the sensor in the intake coolant runner . the other is fan full on all the time .relay is a bosch continuous duty rated 75amp 12volt unit i got from parts junking a few years ago .
fan is bolted to angle iron bolted to stock fan shroud hold down points . the fan is 2012 and newer ford focus 2.0L unit i had from a scrap parts pickup . going to try it and see what she does . moves a lot of air and its not even close to the rad like it should yet .
also did a clutch bypass switch in the dash . has to be held to bypass . and the pedal switch works also . all the work i have been doing it sure is nice to have this sucker .
winch cable on and looking ready for action .

and the blazer is in the shop backwards to show it run's as my driveway is not easy to turn around in by hand not running . and if you have been here you will know this . the grading was all done wrong years ago .

so today i ripped the carb off and got a reman kit in town for just under 50 bucks :doah:(for the little amount in it ) took the carb apart and found some decent junk inside from dried up gas and stuff . even the filter screens on the needle valve inlets were plugging from the old fuel system in the k30 . cleaned her up good / blew out all the ports / adjusted the floats for max and min height / adjusted the pump arm linkage for correct pump arm stick out and lubed the linkage a bit and she was ready for install . put her on and primed the fuel system with the electric pump and she fired off much better and run nicer . after buttoning up a few items she went on 2 test drives around 3 miles each and the second one @manchildau65 rode with me .

she rides real smooth with the leaf springs we have in her and fells good . happy so far with the outcome . more odd's and end's to do but she is almost there .

and the cooling fan works but it needs a new motor and seal up the gaps more . but this was a trial test so not bad i dont think . she only gets over 190* range when sitting so any other time no fan is required much except trail rides maybe but then just flip the bypass switch .

also @manchildau65 fixed the inop blower motor heater system i had yet to test out ...... missing a fuse in the block was all .

we also tested and got the ford shock towers ready for bolt in in the am . just need to get some hardware for final bolt down .

We even got help from @mav469 to do some help .

Definitely had a good evening yesterday, it was great to go for a ride in the new set up - my hats off to sweetk30, we figure there's a better part of 10 trucks in this rig!

Ford shock towers are looking good and will help with the driving manners of the new softer suspension. We did a quick small suspension cycle to see how the shock angles would be and am very happy with the flex this rig will have. In the picture, the driver passenger is off the ground by about 2 feet (ran out of jack).

The list is getting shorter of things needed to be done! I'm hoping I can take it for its maiden journey to an annual trout fishing trip down in Tionesta PA this weekend (about 210 miles each way). My parents house is about midway so if an unforeseen issue occurs, I have a place to stop.

@sweetk30, I really appreciate your help and attention to detail - I definitely keep learning and appreciate your patience with my questions!

Sweetk30 finished up the front shock install yesterday and took it for a ride. He says the difference in handling is night and day! There are a few odds and ends to get after but overall the truck isn't far from its first trip tomorrow. I plan on tracking the driving stats on my phone to see how fuel mileage is (will likely be laughable) and of course will snap some pics along the way.

The area I'm going is pretty deep in the Allegheny National forest, definitely a beautiful area if you get a chance to go - bring a trout rod it's worth it!

Trip down went great, averaged around 9 mpg on highway - with the 4.56 gears, 37" tires, and nv4500 it turns at 2300RPM running at 70mph.

Seasonal roads were a piece of cake - suspension is just the right level of stiffness, ate up everything the road had to offer.

Couple quick pics:

when i gave it to you it was clean ......... your washing it mister . :deal:

and if dirt roads are what your driving on were is the pics of this stuff left in the road :burnout:

Highway cruising - really like the gauge layout, this is cruising at 73 mph, stock speedo is close, 50 psi of oil pressure, 2400RPM, 12 in Hg vacuum, and temp never got high enough to kick on electric fan

how is the sound level of the exhaust inside ?

steering wheel stright ? i only had time to get it super close .

looks like she is a cruiser for sure .

super glad we got you the rig you wanted and built in time for this years family man time fishing trip . :waytogo:

It definitely exceeded my expectations.

Steering wheel is real close, not worried about it but will tweak eventually.

The chambered exhaust is definitely aggressive, I turned on a docimeter app I have on my phone and it read 78db's while highway cruising. Anything above 3k RPM is REALLY LOUD! I'm still on the fence about such a loud muffler pair but it's likely because I'm getting old!

few random pics he has sent me of him enjoying the blazer . even 1 showing it in the work parking lot of his fancy job .... :pimp:

looks like the wife is happy in the pass seat in the woods ride pic .

then 1 of me popping the hood with a vehicle lock out kit after the hood cable come off the clip .

Had a chance to do a little wheeling with the wife, very capable rig - these Firestone MT2's clear the mud pretty easy.

Flexed it out on a pile of stone, the trimming we did worked out well and the suspension is the right balance of soft and firm.
