3 to 4 build for the family : IT'S ALIVE and on the road having FUN !

same exact front face as sbc just missing 1 cylinder per side .

and 1 brace rod each side might need a tweek or cut / clock / reweld .

i like this setup over the full size sbc stuff from 88-95 as its much cleaner and less crap in the way extra .

pass side you can see 1 bolt didnt go in on the head up near the intake . as his heads he used didnt have that location drilled & tapped . but with the 2 braces it will be just fine .

and big block chevy guys can do this kit with sbc parts . http://www.kwikperf.com/bbc_serp_kit.html

engine was fun today . spent a few hr's tweeking a few items before she went in the blazer . then set her down in and bolted up the p/s pump from the 6.2 diesel to the serp belt bracket after i moved and tweeked the high pressure line on the pump . just need to press on the pulley yet .

next was the nv4500 up in the frame rails . installed the new energy suspension mount to match the new motor mounts .

then the np205 went back up on the end of the nv4500 for good .

got a lot done today for a half tired late start .

best part was the nv4500 dropped on the crossmember and then bolted up to the frame NO HOLE'S DRILLED :woot:

got the p/s pulley on and belt today . also re-installed the ORD twin stick shifters . front d-shaft installed for now when it gets running until we get a rear .

also cleaned up the firewall of all the old what ever bits and sprayed it with a good coat of semi gloss black . installed a 82-83 diesel fuel spin on filter setup with a new filter . will be adding this in the mix for his carb setup and electric pump . i like this option better over the generic inline rubber what ever plastic / glass filters . ther in the 12-15 micron range and this diesel filter is 12 micron .

did some other clean up today in prep for some more final install stuff . 1 day at a time and she will be ready for fire up and road test soon .

were still working on the old girl . sweetk30 sent me some pics today of the little jobs he has banged out between his efi trouble on the beater truck and my build and a day off for relax .

he took my 8-leaf 56" springs and removed #5 and #8 leafs to drop the rear just over 1" and soften up the rear . he said its got a lot more movement in the rear now on the bumper bounce test and the body line shows 1" higher in the rear over the front and looks way better than a full 8 leaf pack.

in case anyone wants to know the rear is 1" setback with the new perches.

then he shortened the stock 3/8" fuel suction line from were it goes rubber up/over the frame from the m-1009 diesel spec plumbing job and installed a new longer rubber hose a frame clamp to hold it and then my little 12volt fuel pump mounted to the frame rail with 2 5/16 holes drilled and tapped with a rubber sandwich to cut down the clicker sound . looks almost like a factory install would have could have been .

well today we got a bunch done when @manchildau65 stopped down for a 5 hr stretch of work .

tail gate came off and removed the springs so they would not hit the back bumper anymore after the 1.5" body lift was installed . sure is a 2 man job . i have never played with a blazer gate before .

ran a heavy gauge wire down the frame front to rear for later upgrades like maybe a rear winch and secured it to the frame rail with lots of bolt down plastic coated metal clamps .

then we re installed the fuel tank and got that all hooked up and the skid plate back on also .

next job i think is exhaust system hook up and then clutch pedal system hook up . this will get us much closet to fire off and at least driveway test stuff .

headers are back in and ready to start the exhaust hook up job . . . should be fun . installed a new fresh set of acdelco plugs . going to clean up the plug wire lengths and swap ends at the cap from old style to hei and install a new cap as his was old and nasty from sitting .

modified the 2 brace rods for the alt to exhaust stud and the tensioner to intake for the serp belt mounting . had to modify them since they come off a 4.3 v6 engine . was easy tho . 1 little chuck from each and clock them a hair different and tweek the angle to match and good to burn in solid after i ground them to a point for a solid weld job .

still need to lengthen the p/s resivor hose and mount the can on the core support yet . but waiting till i get the rad in we will be running .

all these little jobs marking off the list will get us up and running real soon .

You don’t have anyone begging to buy the old 15x 8 steel wheels!?

old school beefy winch bumper someone made way back in the day and latter brackets added to fit the gm frame . use to have a good old ramsey re-8,000 winch mounted to it until today . took this ramsey re-12,000 version he picked up cheep cause the motor was cooked bad from heavy corrosion from no use and the bearing was smoked . so we took and cleaned it up / checked it out and swapped in a new motor seal and then swapped the 8,000 pound motor over o the 12,000 unit as they call for the same part # for each . later on we will get a motor for the 8,000 unit and put it back in service .we will be removing the death hooks and welding on some D-rings in there place . also we need to de-fang the front fenders yet .

also the other day we got the tailgate off and removed the springs so they wont get hung up anymore on the bumper with the 1.5" body lift . but this required the rear bumper to come off . and with the military setup on there its almost 1dozen more bolts to play with but we got it . i modified the old nato plug hole to take a civi round 7 plug and flat 4 combo unit . just need to splice in the wires now .

i need to go to the hardware store and get some 5/8" bolts to make the bumper fit the front good and tight :surepal:(inside joke) and she will be good to go . even have a brand new B/A winch cable for it 3/8" x 125ft with a 360* clevis hook / swivel combo on it .

got a few pics from sweetk30 today . he got the 12,000 lb ramsey winch bolted up and the bumper on the frame for good . 6 5/8" bolts to secure the setup to the blazer frame . i like the military frame setup in the front with the extra sandwich plate for a more secure mounting of the original d-ring points but now the winch bumper . he also filled the old nato plug hole in the rear with a civi trailer plug just needs wired in yet . got the front fenders layed out for the de-fang cut .

well manchildau65 did tell me to make room for the tires up front as easy as possible . :surepal::surepal::doah::rotfl::rotfl:

someone at some point had the front clip off as 1 unit . then they never lubed the bolts and some rust was on a few and they broke the weld-nuts loose in the cab body cowl section . so the fenders were loose and moving a bit . so when i found this i just pulled to whole clip again and i can also swap the core support for a better one as some jackwagon also screwed up the weld-nuts for the rad bolt down clamp points .

plan is my buddy is stopping up with his BIG nut-sert tool and some 3/8" nut-serts and they require a bigger hole than the current size so we can fix them real easy and bolt this back up and be good to go .

well we will see how well it holds .

hardware store fastner section . furniture hardware . i got 2 inserts like these minus the 4 prongs and welded them to the body today . there 3/8" like stock nut/bolt size in that location and the body just fits in the hole from the factory so no mods needed . figure its better than nothing . everyone has to order a min qty of nut-serts and no one around here has a tool that big for them . so try this i said .

when you open the door the fender bolt down tab in the firewall cowl area the driver side nut was m.i.a and the pass side broken loose and spinning with a frozen bolt in it . so this was my repair . yes it sticks out a hair from the body but the fenders were going to need shims anyway so no big deal .

well M/T don't offer open hole caps anymore for lots of there wheels and these rims don't have them only closed . well the local lathe was fired up today and a 4 jaw head swapped on and clamped down just to the point it would hold but not bite and break the caps . took and opened them up to the last spot the the T was on the cap then file off the last tiny bit of the fins . much better than a lot of other options and about free .

and finished securing the 2ga power wire we ran to the rear for a later upgrade for rear winch if he ever wants it back there . then i secured the driver-side main wiring a bit better with the added in wires and also the fuel pump power wire . she is getting a lot closer . yesterday i pulled the pedal assembly for the hydro boost / clutch setup and now just need to swap it in this blazer . thinking maybe try and swap on some exhaust sunday .
