What does the board think of a 305 in my suburban, I was told that it probably wouldn't be powerful enough. And another transmission question from me. I had a 700R4 and went to a turbo 350 and now want to go to a turbo 400, so would the mounts and the cross members and what not match up?

Put an HO 305 out of a Monte Carlo SS in a friends C30 3+3, and it moved that truck around just as well as the worn out 350 that was in there before.

Not going to make as much torque, so really depends on what you are doing, but if you've got the 305 laying around, and don't ask it to do too much work, it will be fine. If going "new", definitely go 350.

I do like to go fast and 350 still gets on it but this 305 has an edelbrock carb and a new intake I'm not sure if that would make much difference though

Its the gearing . My 305 would bark the tires hardcore shifting second with the 4.56 gears and a locker :thumb:

Car guys make those go fast with lower gears too .

Anyone have an answer to to the tranny question?

1. Procure the th400 adapter to the transmission .

2. Procure either the correct input shaft for your transfer case OR get a new case . th700/th350 = 27 spline , th400 = 32 spline .

3. Bolt it all together , mounts will match if th400 and adapter same era ( UP TO 84 , 85 AND UP ) jack up the crossmember to the frame , and if holes line up its good , if not drill holes :D
