307 Ci

The 302 was a 289 that was bored to the size of a 350. It was to allow GM to race inside the rules of the GT series that had a 305 CI limit on engines. The Chevy 302 is a Badass motor.

262 = 3.671" x 3.10" = mega dog
265 = 3.750" x 3.00" = dog
267 = 3.500" x 3.48" = mega dog

283 = 3.875" x 3.00" = decent
302 = 4.000" x 3.00" = wicked

305 = 3.740" x 3.48" = dog
307 = 3.875" x 3.25" = dog

The Chevy 302's were created to meet the requirement of the Trans Am racing rules of the day. At the time the CID limit was 305 cubes. Therefore, the 327 block and 283 crank were mated to create the 302. They were conservatively rated at 290hp but actually produced closer to 450 in dual carb DZ trim. Very powerful motor in the upper RPM ranges where the Trans Am race cars ran.

The 307 was a dog. They are known for their poor longetivity due to the lack of nickle and tin in the block composition.

:D :D :D

My friend that I work with has a 1969DZ block in his 69 Camaro. He rebuilt his care with all of the date codes within like 6 months of each other like block, car, axles. And he bitches to me about how much things cost:haha: . Then he asks me why I go to the junkyard and stuff like that for my "Stump Jumper"

Scuse me, but Chevy never made a 289. The 302 was, I berlieve a 4" bore and 3" stroke. They love to rev and they need to, no bottom end. Only available in Z28s. They could be ordered with a cross ram dual 4 barrel and disc brake rear end, plus M22 Muncie. Factory rated at 290 horses, I believe. I think they also came with a forged steel crank. All in all, a GREAT motor for a Chevy II, or a Vega. I'm thinking it was a 327 bore with a 283 stroke. The opposite is what a 307 is, 327 stroke, 283 bore.

Yep, 307 sucks. Stick with the 350, 383, 400 in the SBC. I got a 396 BBC and I would rather have a 454 or 502. It spins up nicely but it doesn't have the grunt I need for a 4wd truck.
