no one makes a kit to replace the puny tank in first gen blazers/jimmys. do they? i got a 73 31 gal tank to fit in mine, had to remove rear crossmember, and make the tank holding area look like a second gen, with some 2x2 angle, and my own straps out of 1 1/2 1/8 strap. was not that difficult. the frames are the same width, sending unit all are on the same ohm scale. only problem is that 2nd gen tank have passenger fill. so i put tank in backward. looks ok, but i want to take it out and cut and rotate fill neck, somehow without going up in flames. i will put up pics if i can figure out how, and if any one is even interested.

If your a fairly skilled welder you can weld the tank and have no leaks.I like to work on new tanks so I dont blow up.I dont repair rusted tanks not that you have one because you just replaced it.If you already poured gas in it you need to drain it and flush it out with a water hose. After that you need to stick a hose into a tailpipe of a car thats running and put the other end in the tank and let it pump hot exaust fumes into the tank for a few hours to evaporate any residual gas.Ive seen when guys have a tank blow up and its not good so be carfull.

i stand corrected. mine was cheaper 10$ and material about $100 for tank and $80 for the sender, if you dont calculate in the pain in the ass to get it right. it took me like a month to finish. should of bought kit.

no i shouldnt of bought kit it is close to $600. i feel better about how long it took me to build!

I sold a few guys gas tanks out of G series full sized vans (1970's-80's) when I worked at the junkyard--that they put into first generation Blazers, back when new tanks were scarce aftermarkey and GM no longer sold one....not sure how much work it was to get one in them, but the filler necks were on the drivers side and they were sihaped about the same..
