Need some feed back.

I have a 78 k5 with a worn out 350 and a buddy with a fresh olds 350 and mounted trans. I have been comparing the two and researching trying to find out if the swap is possible.

Just looking at the 350 olds it looks a lot wider then the Chevy 350. I have read that the Chevy trans will not bolt to the olds engine. But my question is are the engine mounts the same? Will and olds trans work with the transfer case on my blazer.

And the last question am I just crazy for thinking about putting and olds 350 in my blazer. I have been researching but can not seem to find much info. Thanks for any info.

you will need an adapter to bolt the olds engine to the chev trans. the olds (bop) trans wont work unless it has a 4x4 output shaft installed. somebody might make the mounts. they dont bolt just bolt in place.

kinda crazy to put an olds 350 in your k5. an olds 455 would be a different story.
you will need to modify your wiring a bit. and your exhaust. hopefully some random exhaust manifolds fit. you are most likely on your own for headers.

doesnt seem worth it for a 350. maybe a 425 or 455. its not like sbc's are hard to come by or expensive.

Thanks for the link. It has good info.

As for putting the Olds in my K5 its is just a good price for a freshly re maned engine. So I was just thinking about it.

Once you add up all the costs from making the Olds fit, i think you'll see it's cheaper just to get a reman Chevy.

Sometimes it's the free/cheap parts that cost the most to use. Just because you have access to it doesn't mean it's a good idea. Being a not so common swap you're on your own for mounts and exhaust. Not really worth the effort for the same displacement. A 500 Caddy swap probably has more parts avalible for it.

It doesn't cost alot to rebuild a SBC. Take the money you planned on spending on the swap and rebuild your current motor. Odds are you will end up with more HP in the end.

The most powerful responsive truck I've ever owned was an 83 k10 with a 403 hurst olds motor, 4 speed, w/4.10's and 31's. that motor sounded like a drag car when you even bumped the throttle. no hesitation at all. I would tap the throttle and whack my friends's head on the back window for fun.

one of the most ugly V-8's I've ever seen tho... :haha:

With 4.10 and 31" tires, I can do the same thing with a 3.4 V6
