350 is tired, what are my options?

yes, you are, I'm running 35's & 4.10's and it's definately NOT a sports car...it works, drives me around just fine, but definately lags pep from stoplights and such.

It's a truck, ya want fast, go bigger motor or take metal and stuff off the truck, lighten it up.

Definately new gears will help that get up & go feeling though.

Hmm...
I guess I am, then. :doah::haha:

Time to build a Rat-Rod.....

See if there is a difference, before you drop more money into another motor, and still need to change gears to help improve performance.:dunno:

When I buy my D60, I'll go 4.88's...
I know I'll never go above 37's.

EDIT:

How difficult would a Vortec 6.2L swap be?
Say if it were to come out of an '07 Escalade?

Yes,...I run 32's with 3.73's and can't imagine what it would be like with 37's and 4.10's.

3.73's are just god-awful gears....

On 35's w/ 3.73's my OD was USELESS.
4.10's, compared to 3.73's is like night & day.

So, I see how 4.88's would be perfect.

Thanks for puttin' up with my questions guys! :thumb:

Exactly what I am saying...3.73 are good for what I'm running: 32's.

So 4.10's with 37's would not do much for it...you'd need 4.56 to be around the same as my 32's with 3.73's.
But, I would go 4.88...I'm even considering going to 4.10 on mine.

When you re-gear would be the perfect time to justify lockers too

Going from TBI to a Vortec 6.2, sounds like a good project for Ian from Xtreme 4x4, very nice :D

Again I'm not a mechanic, but first thing I can think of would be a new wiring harness and computer.

I have an Eaton in front, and a Detroit out back...:waytogo:

Escalade powered K20 Blazer...

Yep.... It'd essentially have to be ALL Cadi' underneath... :D

An LS swap will be pretty involved as far as wiring. You'll need mounts, headers, and a complete fuel system revamp. Plus a trans adapter, plus a tune on the computer to even get it to run. You'd be looking at least $3k not including the motor.

Would it be worth while? Damn straight but spendy

Do a search for LS swaps here there are a few good threads covering everything you'll need.

Even still you'll be at a dissadvantage with the wrong gears...

There will be a regear in the future, when the D60 goes in...

I would love to have an Escalade powered K5.
That would be nice...

I was gonna revamp the whole fuel system, when I swapped the motor anyway.
So, thats not a huge issue for me.

As for cost, I have the budget to cover it.
I also know someone that owns a recycling yard, now.
So, access to a donor is easy....

I'm gonna plan, and plan, and plan some more....
But I don't see why I can't get this done.

(as long as it's deemed legal, by the time I do it.)

I would do gears and also a cam swap will help with the pep your looking for. The wiring to do the ls swap is not bad.

If it were me i would do a 268 comp cams cam, with a set of vortech heads, that should get you a good amount of power. But if your doing a engine swap i would much rather do a 12v cummins either 6bt or 4bt. You'll get anywhere from 300hp to 700hp depending on how you set it up and anywhere from 400 to 1500ftlb of torque. Im doing a 12v swap into my 89 and im gonna set it up to right around 450 rwhp with a 47rh tranny behind it.

I have an 86 with a newer crate engine and when i called up pacific fab to get a quote and how to deal with emissions issues they were very good about providing info and how to go about it. However, for the swap with it done and rolling out the door i was quoted a rough estimate of 6K! Ouch. Needless to say i went a 290hp crate engine and never looked back. runs well very reliable the only 'issue' i have is the stupid stinking edelbrock smog legal headers. Utter garbage!
