350 Wont Idle/Will Idle Too High/ Wont Idle You get The Idea- SOLVED:)

Yes I can see them spray and the pattern looks good. Truck will start with the passenger side alone connected but not the driver's side alone.

A noid light isn't needed if he already knows that the injectors are firing (he can see the spray pattern).

Ok Cool. I've learn't a ton from all of the contributors on this board. Its probably why I still have this truck besides the fact that I love it so:D

A noid light is something that you plug into the connector for the injector and it tells you if there is a signal at the injector wiring by lighting a light.

well, it's obviously not spraying, or receiving signal to spray if it's not running with the one connected.....

That doesn't mean it isn't getting a signal, could be spraying but not enough fuel to make the engine run. That would be weird though since he is getting a rich code and not a lean code.

Hell of a point there. If she's running with both connected and I unplug the passenger side the truck dies shortly after. If I leave the passenger side alone connected she starts and runs. I will go back outside I have someone crank her while I watch the driver's side to see if it sprays. BRB!

well, the noid would rule out it being a signal issue and verify it's the injector... isolating the problem... you can't guarantee that it's the injector failing, tho likely, and not an intermittent signal issue.. the noid light confirms that...

invaluable thing to have around.... I was too lazy to make one... :o I bought the set...

it more than likely is the injector crapping out... but i will give the design credit, the tbi injectors seem to be pretty durable as opposed mpi ones...

GDS.... if you have a timing light, point it at the injectors to help see your spray pattern, etc......

I also bought a set of Mac brand noid lights years ago that has the fiber optic extension as well.

Diagnostic tools are worth their weight in gold when they are needed.

Ok guys here's what I just discovered. I had some help from a coworker. I cranked the truck with either injector. But it only ran for limited time with the driver side alone. When i cranked with the passenger side it kept running and would rev higher. Looking at the streams closely it appears that the passenger side is dumping more fuel which causes the higher idle and I assume the rich flag.

Bingo, EXACTLY what my very first reply said, a clogged injector causing it to spray/drip too much fuel. :deal:

So the issue would be that the passenger side is clogged?

The internals of the injector could have a piece of crap holding the pintle from closing fully which will allow a continuous fuel supply, or there could be something stuck in the injector pod where the injector sits into. Regardless, if you have another TBI unit and it has the same size injectors I would swap the one in question with a different one from your back-up TBI.

I kept the TBI from my wrecked K5. It was also a 89 model and I will be receiving it in 2days or so. I plan on changing all gaskets etc on the backp unit and just running that one. I will keep you guys posted as to the end result. Those Noid lights I will invest in.

Sounds like you got a handle on it. Just out of curiosity, how is the gear swap going?

If you work on any other cars I would suggest you buy the whole kit not just the single one for TBI. You can buy the whole kit for $40.00 from just about anywhere.
