I've got a set of 35x12.5x16 tires (315/75R16s) from a Craigslist ad and now I'm looking for wheels. I've found several ads for really nice looking wheels but they're stock width. I asked one person with an ad to measure the inside dimension between the rims and they came back with 7". These were 8 lug stock Chevy wheels that really look nice, but I have 12.5 width tires. I have a feeling Schwab will give me grief if I go in there to have them mounted up on 7" wheels.
So what about it? Can you run 12.5 tires on 7" rims? I mean, I know they can be mounted up, but is there a real problem?
Another thing, I'm realizing that some (maybe all) of the modern trucks have a different offset than the bitch'n trucks (70s & 80s). It seems like the newer wheels are offset toward the center of the vehicle. The classic trucks wheel centers are well inset into the wheel. The "0" years trucks almost look like you'd knock off a lug nut if you did a dramatic curbing. Is there a different offset on newer trucks? Is this a problem?
I'd really like to run some of the nice looking wheels I've seen that are narrow and possibly inset. What do you think?
Thanks in advance.
