383 stroker? questions on building one

Sounds like a good plan, sorry to hear it was stolen as it sounds like a contender. Two questions though, are you building another one and why the heck aren't you orange???

Hey muddysub, if memory serves me right i spent about 2,600.00 building that combination. You must take into consideration that i am an automotive machinist so that was almost all parts, some of the machining i did not do and had to farm out but even at that i got a deal from my friend at another shop. I would bet that you could pay someone to build the same combination for around 3,000.00

hey borregok5, i have no idea why i am not orange, maybe because i am not a member yet or something. Yes i am building another blazer now. Actually i am almost done with it. This time i have an 89 V10 blazer that is lifted 6", with a 14BFF, 4.56 gears and detroit lockers, riding on the new BFG mud KM'S 315/75/16. I finally got and installed my slip yoke eliminator kit and had a 1 ton c/v rear shaft made by high angle driveline. Nice work Jess does.

Yeah, Jesse is the next call I'm making for my current weakest link. Is that a Dodge V10? After renting a Viper GTS for a weekend I can only imagine what that would do in a truck... anyway, keep us informed on your build. It sounds interesting!

Hey borregok5, not all the blazer's were k5's. They changed the designation sometime in the late 80's to V10. When i was looking to purchase another blazer after mine was stolen i seen an ad that said V10 blazer and i thought that it was a typo or that someone installed a V10 engine in it. I have since learned V10 is the designation for the model type. I also just joined ck5 as a member, now my name should turn orange. :O)

Doh! I vaguely remember that now... you can see where my mind is

. Good to see you joined, its a great group here and a good resource for some of the lesser known Chevy stuff. I've got a stripped 4 bolt 350 sitting here waiting for a crank, just haven't decided to stroke or destroke it. Depends on what I buy to drop it in! Got to love the 383, might be fun to build a high revving one!

Goto www.speedomotive.com. I was planning on stroking my 383 when I still had my small block. I did a lot of research. My first choice was the "Mighty Mouse" kit which includes the appropiate crank, connecting rods and pistons. They have lots of extras too.

Now, of course, my first choice would be the 489 stroker rat kit.

Summit sells a 1 piece rear seal 383 crank for $370 You'll need a small radius camshaft and the block will need some claearancing.

Red 1989 GMC Suburban SLE V1500 - TBI 350, 700R4 w/ shift kit, Quad-shock front, 31/10.50/15 Pro Comp MT, 4.10 gears, Duals off cat

you can buy a scat one piece seal crank for 239.00. you do not have to run a small base circle cam if you clearance the rod bolts. clearance of the block still needs to be done.
