i have a 71 jimmy i am going to be putting a 8" lift on it and i am wondering if i can run 38x14.5/15s super swamper thornbirds with no cutting, wont see much flex, mostly mud and highway

yea absolutely no problem at all, will look sick too.

the key word is "look", as the performance from thornbird offers poor performance at best.

interco def a good choice, try there 38" swamper, cant go wrong:D

Dont get thornbirds..

My truck came with them. Way loud on roads, had a tendency to get flat spots while sitting. And didnt perform well on any surface except sand.

All they did is load up with mud and spray it all over the side of my truck, into my windows, and on my roof. I would not suggest them to anyone.

Get TSL Radials, or even boggers if you want mud and not concerned about wear

ha ha yea all bias interco's will "be loud, get flat spots, and spray mud all over" :haha:

But at least other Interco tires will give you forward movement and not clog. My TSL radials wheel 300000x times better and hardly any mud gets strewn about in my face.

only reason i wanted to go with thornbirds is because 99% of the time its going to be a around town truck, might see mud a couple times a year. I have TSL/SSRs on my truck (not the jimmy) now and while they look cool they only seen minimal mud time. i dunno, i guess ima poser haha

also what kind of backspacing on a 15x10 wheel should i get for a tire of that size?

oh and im really looking to go with a radial

In that case you def dont want the thornbirds. They didnt ride well on the street. It seemed those poky side lugs would grab grooves in the road and the tires would drive me all over. They didnt wear very good either. I would just grab another set of the SSR's

also what kind of backspacing am i looking at? the 15x10s i like are the dick cepek dc-2s and they have a 3 5/8" backspacing

Jesus more fugly DC2s rollin around on the street.

Seeing as how your putting DC2s on it I can only assume you dont want to cut anything. In that case 8in may very well not be enough.

nope no cutting

haha they speak my language when it comes to wheels, tons of them and cheap

well i say im not going to cut it but i am not opposed to putting some bushwacker cutout fenders on it

Well bushwackers offer huge clearance gains. They open your fenders up to the size of the inner fender. I would recommend them and stick with the 8in. You'll have even more room if you scoot your axle forward an inch since the flares are all behind the tire as far as space.

dewd you the confusing...

you said you want a RADIAL, but all you talkin bout is bias ply tires (boggers, thornbirds...)

thornbirds suck at everything, unless ya are lookin for a tire that wears out insanely fast, won't get you any further than a cheap at, and will make you deaf after 10 min on the pavement, there is no way i will ever buy another set of the frickin things:mad: but totally up to you thats just my .02
