3m Headphone Earmuffs

Too much distraction, especially while driving.
Dam cell phone drivers/users are bad enough.
Don't mean to offend.......just my 2¢

Not sure if its federal or state law, but its against the law here to wear headphones while driving.

Certain ones are certified to pass enough sound through to comply (possibly the apple hands free ones?).

Anything that stops surrounding noise is a hazard for emergency vehicles, and general situational awareness.

I'd be pissed to see someone on the road wearing something like that. Regular headphones are bad enough.

I wear ear plugs all the time. I don't see how it'd be any more distracting than a regular radio. I will look into local laws.

I agree it could stop noise for emergency vehicles. I can hardly hear them anyways. It's not something I'd use around town. Only on long highway drives where the noise really starts to wear on me.

Truthfully, i'm not sure its legal to wear ear plugs.

But, i'm curious to learn more.

As soon as I saw that you wrote for driving use, I knew what this thread would turn into

You should probably just remove that

Rich you have to tell people you drive across the damn country with no top whatsoever. Maybe then they will understand.

It's not the fact that it has no top, it's just that the diesel is so FARKIN loud you can't hear yourself think in that thing...

Exactly.

If you havnt ridden in riches rig, stop yo bitchin

You can't hear a friggin thing outside of the thing anyways...

Now onto some actual reviews of the topic at hand

My blazer is so much louder with the top on.

It's against the law to wear headphones while driving in some places?..hmm..didn't know that...

...but if your elderly and deaf, and dont turn your hearing aid on,or the battery goes dead,or dont even have one--thats fine!..:screwy:..

What's the difference between having headphones on,and having a 1000W stereo with thumping subwoofers you can feel coming a mile away cranked up?..either way, your not going to hear a siren coming up behind you..

I know two guys who were born deaf, yet still have licences and drive--one is a crackhead to boot!..lived next door to a friend of mine..weird thing is,neither of them have ever had an accident that was their fault..yet!..one drives all the way from CT to visit the other too, every week..I dont know how they do it,I have a tough time going for groceries 5 miles without having at least 5 "close calls" from jerks who drive distracted or foolishly..

With all the distractions today with cell phones,tablets,in-dash TV's and stereos with digital readouts telling you what station your listening too,who the artists is,what song it is,and on what album,it's no wonder no one is watching where they are going,or paying attention to their driving..
I dont see where headphones are any worse!..some states let you ride motorcycles without helmets, but you cant wear headphones?...

Here in cali you can have ear phones in one ear only. That said, radio reception probably ain't that good with those and I'd rather crank the stereo. (Which by the way does in most states have a decibel limit that cops can ticket for if they so desire) In the shop I use my ear buds sometimes and just put on ear muffs when grinding. Ear buds will go under the welding helmet and ear muffs or head phones won't.

Those are cool. I'd like to have a pair.

I once had to drive about 300 miles on the highway in my '73 Blazer with a 6.2L and no top, so I wore ear muffs and did the ear buds inside. I was surprised that it didn't help me that much. All of the low-end vibration was translated through my body/headphones and so it wasn't that much better.

I agree that in town it wouldn't be a real wise move, but on the highway I don't think it's that big of a deal. And as to distraction, I find that music doesn't distract me at all from the road. Cell phone, on the other hand, whether or not I'm doing hands-free, is always distracting. I think it has something to do with the fact that you don't have to focus on the music in the same way that you have to focus on the person on the other end of the line.

I use my Bose noise canceling head phones in the shop and around the house. Ipod or phone. But not on the road. I have a hard enough time paying attention. I run with a window cracked even when it is freezing out.

I'd spend the money to sound deaden the firewall (inside and out), under the hood, and even a spray on on the inner fenders will help.

Sound, should have no real part in distracting you while your driving in any way. driving is 99% visual. but some places do make stupid a$$ laws like that because of dumb people. We cant even drive with socks on in this part of the country. shoes or bare feet are fine.... your feet might slip off the brake pedal:rolleyes: :doah:

a factory base model stereo will get you a noise ordinance ticket in a lot of places.... law here is if they can hear it at all from 50' away its a $300 ticket. no decibel level needed.

As for the OP......... Buy the H3ll out of em:waytogo: so my stock goes up..... (I work for 3M:whistle:)

And the worst their gonna do is tell you you cant wear em and maybe a small ticket....... bet you"d get a lot of driving done before they ever even noticed:thumb:

Unless you collide with an emergency vehicle that you didn't hear coming and you die... :dunno:

ive never really heard an EM vehicle before I seen them. you either see it in a mirror/out a window LONG before you can hear it or its not in a path that's gonna affect you. if your paying attention you'll see them. a normal modern car with the windows up, AC blowing and radio at normal listening levels will hamper your hearing just as much. and by the sounds of his truck I bet its not gonna be any different.

if you can't hear a car horn honk, it's dangerous imo... I'm not talkin stereo's, loud exhaust, etc, I'm talking intentional ear plugs, or being deaf..

I live in fear every day with my dad.. he is near deaf, still drives some here and there.. tho we've been trying to get him to stop for awhile now and he keeps it local... but it's freakin dangerous imo...

I'd bet the farm if a joysey cop saw you wearing shooters muffs while driving, you'd be pulled over in a split second... :deal:

no ear protection will keep you from hearing that stuff.... even plugs under muffs you can still hear someone talking 10 feet away in a quiet area... any loud noise will override them. with music playin maybe but...... I don't even look when I hear a horn honk myself... chances are its just a jackwad honkin for no reason 99.9% of the time.... I still don't even know why cars have horns...... all they do is cause road rage
