Its official 4.10's and 35" tires are just not cutting it. I would like to hear what the people running 4.88's and 35"s have to say, but I would also like to hear from anyone running 5.13's and 35's, By the way I have been thinking about going up to a 37" or 38" tire but I am still not completely sure on that idea. Its for my 90 with a TBI 350 and a 700 tranny.

I would say if your planning on going bigger run the 4.88 maybe even the 5.13 if you are going to a 38" or taller. I will be running 4.88 with a 6.2 and 700 to keep my rpms low for the diesel and im planning on 39.5"s

Gearing and tire size are also a little dependent of the torque your engine puts out. With that being said, i run 4.56 with 35's with a 700R4 and wasn't happy with it when i had a small hill to climb as the trans would keep "hunting" in and out of OD. Now i have a new engine with about twice the torque output but haven't had a chance to see how i like it now. If i still don't like it then i'm going with 5.13's.

4.56's

I run a FI vortec motor and just put in 4.56 gears and new BFG 35's and really wish i had only done 410's Oh well guess i need 37's. But i also run a 700r4. But my motor has really good power but going to down to 4.10 or going up to 37in tires would put me right where i would love mine. Enough grunt for hills and wouldn't be over reving on the hwy.

hell, my 4:10s and 33s with my wimpy 305cid is marginal. So, I can understand 4:10s and 35s. Id go with 4:88s esp. if you have OD. I wouldnt go with 4:55s

I really think it has alot to say about the engine. On my fresh 350 with 4.10's and 35" bfg muds i have no problem with not enough grunt. Might be time for some upgrades

How is that combo "not cutting it", especially with the low 1st gear in the 700R4?

My cousin has a 90 burban with the same setup but he has 4.88's and I could not believe how much better it felt, My 350 has less than a year since it was rebuilt I have a power chip and headers an msd etc...

Are we discussing the difference between blast or crawl? I have an '85 Burb. 3.90s, SBC350, TH350 on 35s and I have no problem crawling through anything.:D

Hell, I have 3.42s and 35s and mine does decent. On the highway it stays in 4th. I dont know how it would do on hills since there arent any around. Highest point here is about 12ft above sea level.:haha:

I know when/if I ever get 4.56s I'll be able to see what the motor will really do though!:D

I ran 3.08 and 35s.
What are you trying to do with your truck? If it just a seat of the pants feeling from a stop, go with 5.38. It will launch you.

We still need a little more info from you.

what kind of info, we do sand , rocks and mud when available, remember I am asking for opinions. My truck was original when I got it and I think it had 3.42's? with that said would I be back on par with the factory powerband with 4.56's, or 4.88's and I also know that 5.13 would be a little steep but the thought of bigger meats in the future
is not out of the question

I run 4.10's with my 36's and a 350, not near enough jam. I am moving up to 4.56's and a 400 pontiac. The motor makes just as much difference as the gears if not more.

But then again i am used to the race car with 3.73's and 28'' tires and a 455 pontiac haha!

I run 4.10s with some fat 36's and I have no problem with it. I have a tbi 350 and 700r and it works great. It will spin the tires just fine in gooy mud in 4hi. Yeah its no speed demon but it will still launch good. It will out launch a nissan fronter. But then there are times I wish I went 4.56. I think 4.88 would be the highest I would go. With 5.13 and 35s even with od you would still be turning high rpms on the highway.

Hmmm I run 3.73's, 36's and an sm465. I think its way more than enough gearing even though 4.10's equates to stock.

4.10's is definatly low enough for 35's. I say look at tuning up that motor. My truck does have a cam and lifters, and MSD ignition in it so the thing moves good.

yea from what i remember 4.10's and 35"s are pretty much same as stock. lol youll go change your gears then ill see a post from you trying to get the rpm's down on the highway or how to get better mileage lol

This is true. The gearing isnt as low for a sm465 vs a 700r4. I was 3.42's (ish?) on 31's stock. Therefore 36's and 4.10's is back to the same ratio for my truck. Yours is different get a calculator.

Just remember that the extra weight and width of the tire also fights the truck. The calculator only makes up for the added tire height math.

Got a calculator, thanks. No SM465 or 700R4 here, good ol' TH400. Very true about the tires weight, width, rolling resistance, wind resistance, etc. My mileage literally dropped almost in half when i added the lift and tires.
