4.21 UPDATE Topless Suburban on Rocks - NARROWED Front ROCK

Metro, Thanks so much for the support. It means alot.

I am not sure if you caught my garage fire thread, but it has been a bad year and my wife is suffering from depression from everything that happened.

It's so hard seeing her this way.

She is doing so much better, but with the garage fire, the dog's death and trying to rebuild everything, the Suburban has been put on the back burner.

All of my hard parts were in the garage and burned.

I have to blast ALL of my parts AGAIN and get the POR15.

I lost ALL of my tools and I am slowly, with insurance help, rreplacing the tools that I use all the time.

I have changed directions on the Suburban as well.

I am going with a stock front clip, and the headlights will be moved down to the bumper. The grille will be the oldschool Phantom full grille and I will be using the headlight buckets for air intakes.

I had initially intended to use a Topkick front clip, but I need to get it on the road.

I want to thank everyone that has posted in this thread and my other build thread for their support.

I looked over it tonight and it really lifts my spirits.

It means alot.

We are alive yes and that does matter.

My wife and son are both tramatized to a point that they will never be the same.

i know how you feel. our house was flooded in katrina so i completely understand! i will never forget those images and what we had to do to redo the house

It was more the dog, not the garage. I could give two ****s about all my tools at this point.

I would trade them twice if I had my dog back.

Well, I am baout $8000 away from driving it and that was to happen this year as money has been ROLLING lately.

Then my wife lost her job and you have heard the rest, sooo probably a few years.

I am back to completing tasks that do not require money, and cleaning burnt parts.....:)

I know what you mean about the dog! They are our kids in a way, mine was my best friend and partner.

Yes depression is bad and talking to some one about it helps. Keeping things in you can and will screw with your head. MY PTSD festered into major depression and kept me inside for over a year.

This place and my Blazer helped me get out of the funk. I also sought help for it. Some times we all need a light helper to get us by. Nothing wrong with taking medicine or seeing a therapist.

i really like the idea of moving the wheel well openings up instead of hacking them out. it looks more professional and clean. how much lift are you going to run the clear the 54's?

54's......

I have B52's up front with 8" springs, so that is about 12" of lift by itsself, but the brackets have some built in lift, so 3" there.

I removed the fangs off the front fender as well as the rockers and the other sheetmetal that is level with top off the rockers.

ALSO, I am moving the front axle forward and re making portions of the rear of the inner fender.

As we all know the front fender lines are actually higher than the rear, so I am raising the rear fenders more than the front.

On the rear, I have DIY4x Lifted front spring Hangers, ORD shackle flip and 8" lift springs and that is about it for the rear.

I am adding a tad bit of lift to the perches on the rockwells; an inch.

Clean and professional was what I was going for.

Thanks for the compliments.

I just scored a nice Blazer tailgate COMPLETE for $50 and a nice late model converted front Bench seat for $35.

Also, I think I just scored a Propane setup off of a running 454 to go on my 454.

Have you mounted the engine yet?

The stock 4x4 ones are too tall, I have one stock one that I cut the top off too fit that you could have.

With that said I have been contemplating cutting OUT my outer wheel wells and moving them up about 2-3".

Unless you are a hot rodder too, then you may be confused....pics to follow:

The fronts should be easier, but that remains to be seen!!!!!!:D

I'm doing something similar to my blazer, but I am also opening up the fenders by 8". It's a lot of work and the fronts are going to be a pain because I'm taking 6" from the front and 2" from the rear. The rears only moved back, to center the tire using 56" springs turned around. Could help with your long rear overhang, though

Brett.

Thanks for the post.

I have though about opening up the front, but I might just move the rear back an inch and the front forward an inch or maybe 3 inches.

The rear may go back only an inch, but I doubt it.

With my B52's on the front I have some choices.

With that said, since I have removed the rockers, I am also removing a portion of the lower fenders, to make it even all the way across the bottom of the truck.

Now I am not raising the front fenderwells as much as the rear as from the factory the rears are lower. I am sure this is common knowledge.

With the big tires on the front, I am going to have lift it more or move the axle forward and hence wanting to move the front wheelwell forward as well.

We'll see, I have already opened enough metal projects with this vehicle!!!

I like the big butt overhang!

Well, I am trying to decide what disc brakes to buy and how to clock the doubler.

I really want a flat belly, but with Rocks and 54" tires, I don't think I really need it.

Any thoughts?

I also need to get a water pump, timing chain, head rebuilt and a carb.

It's time to spend some money on tubing for the bumpers as well.

Oh boy......
