how do I tell if my block is a 4 bolt main

Go prepared

I think you have to pull the oil pan and just count 'em. It might also say what it is on the casting number.

you could look on the back of the block( drivers side ), and find the casting number. the number is directly behind the head on the block, slanted a little. You'll need to climb on there with a flashlight and a rag, wipe it down, check your number, then run the number. or you can drop the pan and count the main cap bolts. Having a 4- bolt block is very good, But remember, you don't really need it unless your making serious HP or torque, like over 350. JS

i think if it is the original motor then it would be a 4 bolt. somebody correct if i am wrong, but i think i read somewhere that all trucks had 4 bolts mains caps.

Knife.
