Wanted 4-door chevette

Folks can, and will make fun of the gremlins, pintos, vegas, chevettes etc., but they sure had more style than the more current econocars.
Notice i did NOT include pacer in my above description of good styled cars.

i'm just sorry, but come on.
Notice your comment of folks can and will make fun of the cars you listed but won't make fun of the Pacer. It's a hot rod!

Nah, just kidding. The biggest factor we all liked them back in the day was the weight factor and where many of us couldn't afford things then we all liked to dream. And dreaming meant wishing for a race motor in a light car hence the Pacer interest. I seriously doubt a lot of us were after the "wow factor" with the aesthetics of a Pacer. Today even I'm not saying it's a beautiful car but the interest is still there for race purposes. I will say this much though: that ship has sailed. I'm too old now to even try to think or dream about it.

i realized a troubling/sobering thought yesterday:

The supply has dried up. Maybe not totally gone, but vastly "evaporated."

While millions were sold, the chevette was never a loved car. It was a "throwaway" transportation car.

In contrast to, iconic, beloved, cars such as 1st gen camaros, chevelles, tri-5 chevys, trucks, and to a certain extent, blazers.
Even if you're not a car person, you know what a trans-maro or 57 chevy is.

When was the last time you even SAW a chevette on the street? It's probably been years. THAT should tell you something......

Same with first gen J-body (cavalier etc.) Also Corsica, luminas etc. "Throwaway" cars.

A few outliers are into Opel GTs, vegas, chevettes etc. because you can, sort of, put a sbc in there and be extremely light. But these are not and never were loved cars. This is strictly a niche/novelty category of cars. i think the only small car that was ever loved was/is the vw bug? But that's not even a true sub-compact?

The few outliers, like myself, are probably the type of people that live alone in a shack on top of a garage where all they do is mess with cars. Note: i do not live alone or in a shack, although "mentally" i do.

i think they are still out there, but it won't be easy. i'll need cash and a trailer at the ready and be ready to take a road trip. All this needs to be lined up and ready to go at moment's notice.

2) i am willing to pay a fee for someone to reserve the right car IF it's geographically too far away to make an immediate(weekend-ish) road trip. i'm not sure how to do this right now, but i would forward the actual cash to pay for car as well as the "assistance fee." i can be very generous with this fee as well.

All this over a chevette. How sick am i........

I learned that the best way is to get feelers out there and wait for it to happen.
Every car I wanted came at some point.

Wow.........i know some people don't like chevettes, but damn......:
https://www.reddit.com/r/chevette/comments/5a9pia/free_car_with_benifits/

i mean, if you DID take her up on the offer, wouldn't that make you a prostitute or something......?

I guess the diesel engine option was 81-82

i think diesel was 81-86. And speaking of diesels, it seems most of the chevettes still for sale are diesel----because they outlasted the gassers, i guess?
Since i'm going to be taking the engine out immediately, i don't care if gas or diesel and would actually prefer a diesel so i can learn more about diesels in general.

Thanks. This is probably the best strategy---to be patient.

Did you see the chevette with the Mercedes diesel engine on reddit?

Did you see the chevette with the Mercedes diesel engine on reddit?

1) i did not initially click on that link because the mercedes part in the title turned me off; Admittedly i don't know much about mercedes diesels......
But yeah, i finally did see it.

2) i would have went "downstairs" for her, for her to SELL me the car........

I love the idea. I saw a guy do a 5.3, single turbo LS swap in one! Left it super quiet, but you knew something wasn’t right!
This is the 1st 4dr to come up on Market place near me.

i don't care what she looks like: i would go "downstairs" for a woman if she will sell me the right car.

This is what it's come to. Am i sick or what? All this over a chevette. What has this world come to.......?

i hate to be a pain, but could someone get the ph number/contact info of the blue 84 "corvette" listed above and PM me? FB won't let me access marketplace because my account is "too new" or some shit like that....

Thanks.
