4" lift recipe, opinions wanted

So some have a different view of expedition wheeling than I do, I want to go where not many other folks have been. I can explore forest service roads that are maintained in just about anything. So while you may not expect it to be crawling through rocks or blasting through the mud, that may in fact occur occasionally.

Now onto steering. IMHO since your going to be driving this long distances I think steering should be pretty high on your list. The xover steering isn't just for hardcore guys, it makes the steering so much better overall...

Agreed on the view of "expedition 'wheeling" - we've had situations where it was basically 2WD all day, and next thing you know, I'm in 4WD, low range, with both lockers clicked in...

Agreed on the x-over steering, wouldn't want to go back, although I for one also wouldn't have minded keeping the sway bar.

P.S. My truck is still (for the forseeable future) on 35s. You know what having a front D60 means in this context? It means you'll hit the rocks in front of you 60% of the time...:D

This is some really good input guys, I do appreciate it very much.

The crossover steering will happen, just not on this initial build. As far as springs go I would prefer to stay with something "off the shelf". I understand that does have some limitations but I am trying to keep with "common" parts for lack of a better word for replacement reasons.

If you break a spring you are going to have to order it anyway, its not really something you can just pick up at the parts store.

I don't think I would count springs in the common parts category unless you go with 52s/56s. I don't think those would work for as well as the other options

You are right, I think I maybe a bit spoiled on whats in stock at stores. Here in Phoenix there is quite a bit sitting on the shelf since there is a Transamerica warehouse here. as for stock springs 52/56s. I am finding more aftermarket springs available then the 56" and a 56" is $470 bucks a side!

Well the 470 is reproduction OEM new. Like LMC or SD truckspings or Husky and the yards around here have pretty much stopped the 50% days. I think they found they were loosing money.
