yup, that was an initial concern... that's where I'd be getting the 56's from for the CC, the K5 build... thinking I'll have Kert build me a set of under frame hangars like his... use the 56's.. bag it.. and do an antiwrap eventually, when needed...

the nice thing about that plan is I can do it incrementally on weekends and DD it. flips, springs, etc one weekend, than bag it another, than antiwrap down the road...

when I get back to the K5, I can either get a new set of 56's, or sell my flip and go for a link setup, which is really the rig that should get it anyway... good call bro.. :D

And the new DD arrival time at gate Ryoken? I gotta admit when you commit you def do your homework, examine every angle, and consider every dollar. Its nice that you value input from everyone on here also, to get to were you want the rig to be. It is by no means one sided.

That said I plan on cheating and copying from your paper.

I also like the 4-link virgin comment.

thanks... I definitely value everyone's input and opinion.... I'm not that stubborn that I can't be swayed, but as with the K5, I'm gonna do what I want in the end....

still a ways off.... I'm guessing I'll be lucky to see it by april 15, more likely a week or 2 later... but I'll certainly be going balls to the wall when it gets here.... if I can swing the funding, I may do a BIG tube order next week.. so it's here and ready....

I do have to budget in my custom fuel tank tho.... which I would like to install as soon as the tube bed structure is done...

I have a damn good hook up down the street from the guy that makes our custom boat tanks... but it could still run $600 to a grand depending on how fancy I get... but it will be badarse, SS, etc, etc..

yes, that was the original thought... links, bags and shocks... tho i guess that does put the bags into that "fail factor" category... maybe a coil/bag combo would be better...

did you end up adding bags to the CC after those pics?

The bags were in the plan from the get go but didn't get them on till later.

Here's about the only shot I can find where you can see them at all.

I personally like the idea of springs and bags. Tons of people around here run them and they do a lot of towing. Between livestock trailers, job trailers, and RV trailers, they all run the same setup. Some of those RV's are so big their not even leagal is some states. Looks like a whale h*mping a guppy.

Nice thing if something goes wrong while you are towing away from home your more likely to find parts on the road and it seems like a redundant system. Bags fail you still have springs and vise-versa.

ok sweet, thanks.. that's exactly how I figured it would be... actually, would it be easy enough for you to supply the bags as well?

I'll definitely give ya a call come mid april when the rigs in my driveway...

yup, the "leaves will always get ya home" factor is huge.... I was kinda jonesing to do a link setup, but me thinks the K5 will be the guinea pig... :haha:

and actually, I've always wanted to build an anti-wrap system, so the CC will go that route at some point...

If not, I can certainly get you some info on what bags I used.

Sounds like a plan!

thanks bud.. they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! :haha:

As a point of information, airbags last years on semis, they use them on cement trucks, they last quite some time, I know a local company has 6 years on some of their trucks and they have never replaced a bag. There are a whole ton of heavy duty type trucks that use the airbag as their main support.

Air bags failures I would bet are about as common as leaf spring failures ( break the main leaf on a spring while towing you aint going nowhere)

True leafs are the simple. The main problem I have seen with bags is used ones will tend to leak, not a big deal for me as the yard I will get mine from is only 5 minutes from my house and they have a 30 day guarantee.

The newer duramax we bagged now has well over 20k on his bags ( he get them from airbagit I think) and no problems at all

I have owned a couple one ton trucks and they just ride like crap, till you put 1000 lbs or more in the bed then they ride nice, so for something like is going to be daily driver status comfort is a big deal for me. So replacing the leafs with well just about anything else is high on the list:D

Most airbag system failures are the lines. People run the cheap poly lines with push connects. Run solid line and wider heavy duty bags (bigger diameter use less psi to do the same work + ride better) and call it good. The likely hood of bag failure is LOW.

I don't know how the smaller bags are, but the big rig bags have a bump stop inside so if your bag fails it just will be riding on th ebump stop, it will still get you home.
That said I still would do springs plus bags myself.
As for riding hard, this truck has the biggest springs I have ever seen, I am going to see how much time I have before it's picked up and maybe change the springs to a regular one ton setup.
Pics to come.

and when i do the flip, I'll be putting in the 56's I have, so it should soften up even more... tho I will probably be driving it around for a month or 2 before i lift it... so a semi sane spring pack initially would be a great help..

I'll do x-over at that time too.. the big question for me is how much of it do I steal from the K5 parts room, and how much do I rebuy now...

What ever the bank account allows.

I know you will be building a tube frame, but I think I remember you saying you where adding tool boxes also. I pack a lot of tools with me also so I would imagine that would help with ride quality if you do bags and springs? It helped in my 1ton and now my diesel.

yeah , the bed will be a combo of 2" DOM and plate steel... the tool box company I'm looking to use are these guys...

http://www.800toolbox.com/

they build some badarse stuff...

I know exactly what I want for the underbed, in front of the tire ones, they are pretty straight forward.. but I'm undecided on any additional storage up top, gotta design that stuff on the fly...

Damnn you, now I have to start working on my own bed to put some of these in :doah:Nice, definitely nice.:waytogo:

:haha:

one lower side will be drawers, the other side will just be dividers... i kinda have an idea for what I want up top, but I have to see how, and where the tube lays out first...

kinda along the lines of this, but much shallower, with 1 less shelf and the length of the "bedside"....

Damn that's fancy. I wonder if they Make something like that. For an in bed design.
