Looking at tires for my white truck, plan is 5.13 or 5.38 gears

6.0/4l80 dana 60 front/14 year..yada yada yada

40 inch tires on a 17 inch rim..

goodyear mtr 500.00 a tire.. low load range 14 inches wide

new bfg ktm..SEXY..588.99 a tire..load range c as well 14 inches wide

ground hawg..336.00 a tire 40x17 x17..bias ply and wide

I looked at toyo but they dont offer tire in this size for a 17"

maybe the new ltb? I am worried about flat spots or out of round.

bfgs. you will get at least double the mileage than the mtrs probably triple the miles. the other two aren't even in the same class.

the bfg is just a better tire, traction, treadwear, ect.

Another option may be the ProComp Radial Xterrain. I know they have a 40/13.50R17. I don't know how good a tire they are though. I have never owned a set.

My neighbor has a set of 35s on his f150. He has 45K miles on them and they have at least half tread left. They do seem to hold up well for normal driving.

my friend had a set of 35" goodyear wrangler mtrs on his 99 burb, they took a hell of a lot of abuse and they lasted about 60,000. he went to alaska and back (connecticut) twice.

I had a set on my 2500hd. They were 285/75/16s. They lasted less than 20K miles from normal road driving with very little trailer pulling. Maybe I just got a bum set...

HMM, I've been running MT/R's since 02. I sold a set that had about 20k on them and were over half tread. Only reason I sold them is I got a killer deal on a set that were like new.

really? thats pretty crazy, probably a bad batch of rubber.

My last set of MT/R's (37") had ~12K on them when I sold them, they were a little over 80% tread. They had LOTS of wheeling miles on them and they performed very well. Great tires :thumb:

I had BFG Mud Terrains before that and I really like them too. Pretty much the same experience, good offroad performance and acceptable wear.

Ground Hawgs are a very dated tire and IMO don't really compete with anything else that's made now.

BFG Krawlers are outstanding but kinda pricey (thought the tires you listed are very pricey too).

You didn't mention Interco TSL's or IROKs both are awesome offroad and are offered in 39.5" and 42". Don't expect good wear or street manners from either, at least the Bias ply ones.

A lot of this comes down to what you are using the truck for

What's the plan for the truck? You have the colorado for daily driving duties and the buggy for off-road so what's the white truck's role? Just all around goofing off and weekend street queen?

truck uses..

well currently I use it to haul trash or parts.. I like taking it to the lake, wash, light wheeling and camping..

when the buggy is all done the truck will need to tow about 100 miles round trip for most of the good local wheeling, longer trips I want to do would be moab, las cruises, and farmington.

so a few long trips a year, I cant imagine more that 5-7k a year. I drive my Colorado daily for business and just drive the truck when I feel like driving something I like.

a set of toyos, bfs, or mtrs would be nice but they are big money! Its a sad day when am irok looks cheap in comparison. with the iroks..replacing two tires would be 700 bucks.. with the bfg's its 1200...

I dont really like the procomps but the price and performance is very appealing, I wonder how soon till the buy three get one free deal comes out..

one thing I find interesting is that the mtr and bfg have load c and load d ratings..yet the 39.5x17x13.5 irok has a load rating of E..this really is more appealing when towing to moab or the dunes to play.

The NEW TrXus Mud Terrain is INTERCO'S answer to the need of those who want a smooth, super quiet ride with tough, thick sidewalls with a chip and cut resistant compound. This tire has more siping than any other mud terrain on the market; which has proven to be almost magical in icy snowy conditions. These same traction features make this tire a serious rock climber.

largest size is a 38.5/14.50R-17LT, ..but its a load range I like and a good highway performer, I am sure the life would be far superior to an irok 329.00 a tire

A buddy of mine has Trxus MT's (35's) on his F250... he has a slide in camper and tows a trailer with his 'yota on it and he loves them. They wear great and he said they handle towing duties like a champ.
