400 sbc???? (All assembled)

I wouldnt mess with an edelbrock anymore, I have the 1405, and probably wont touch it ever again. They are nowhere near as great as everyone thinks they are.

I was gonna go back to Q Jet from the 1405, even had one rebuilt, but then the TBI fell into my lap. I do miss being able to mod stuff though, and will porobably go back to a carb.

IMO you could step up a bit on the cam. I know it's more $$ but the Comp XE2624X works really well in a SB400.

Nevermind I got a nice system lol

Hey so what do you guys (cough 4x4high) lol, think that my hp and torque specs will be. 400 40 over, standard crank, I think 3.75" stroke, that SUmmit 1103 cam, with roller rockers and rebuilt stock heads? I know its not gonna be alot, just wondered if anybody knew a ball park range.

This cam. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-1103/

about a hundred pages ago or a different thread i mentioned loosing that carb :D
Haha yes I know lol, but with the new motor, the exhaust, tranny build and hopefully a 14sf in the near future, the working carb I have is last on the list to replace lol.
Got my new top on today!! check it out!!

ditch the chrome front cover.

you will wish you had when you cant keep it from leaking like most of us have found the hard way over the years.

and go get 2 sets of basic felpro exaust manifold gaskets. install 2 per side and clamp down nice and tight. i did this years ago from the help of a friend and my headers didnt leak up top for well over 3 years of runnin the truck.

The headers look nice on there, but you might want to pull them for engine install. They might get tight going between the frame rails, might. I used Percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets for my headers, no sealant.

As for the timing cover, dunno, never dealt with anything aftermarket.

The carb is going to need major richening. Read up how to do it yourself. Not sure if the Edelbrocks work the same as my Q-jet, but to save time and money, read up how to do basic adjusting. The carb will work fine, personal opinions aside, it will deliver air and fuel. If it's not up to par, deal with it later, but make sure you are not running the engine lean.

Get it running and driving. Put 100 miles on it and pull a spark plug. I had to richen everything since the displacement increase. The screws on the bottom are for idle, the screw in the front/ top is for part throttle and it adjusts the part throttle needles, and the hanger/metering rods in back are for everything else. All of these changed for my set up.

Im pretty sure the carb was the opposite of lean as far as it was always smelling of gas (no gas leaks I checked) and that it hated starting after turning it off, I think that sounds like flooding to me.

And as far as the headers, if you look I only have 2 bolts holding them on. Nothing is bolted on, no gaskets are in place, I just layed the intake and valve covers on to see what it would look like. I wont have the headers on for the install.

And if the timing cover leaks, well I guess it leaks but im not gonna take it off now lol, its paid for and on their so maybe ill smear some gasket maker along the crease before it leaks to make it last longer. Plus it looks BA!!!:thumb:
