44" tall X 12" Wide XMLs. My build thread.

Last time i failed, i dropped my truck off at a decent carb shop, California Carb in ???Redondo???Lawndale?? cant remember the city. Told them what was going on, they rejetted it tuned it. and sniffed teh tailpipes to check the mix and make sure i'd pass. I gave tehm @ $220 bucks drove strait to the test site and passed with flying colors. There are caertain times when handing over teh keys and shelling out the greenbacks is the easiest and most cost effective way to solve a problem.

Picked up tires...interesting trip...

Took the wife n kid up to Barstow to pick up 4 XMLs from skidpan. About 4 hrs each way (normally), left at 8am. All good 'til we got a flat on the back on the way home. The Yota is my mom's, usta be my bro's. The aftermarket wheels have aftermarket lug nuts, and the factory lug wrench didn't fit. Tried getting ahold of some Ck5ers, no luck...after a bit a AAA guy came by and I borrowed his wrench, but the spare was taller and low on air so I put it on the front and swapped a front to the rear....fun, fun. sandawg's crappy old worn out tires, shoulda known better.
I dig XMLs. One is a little feathered, need one more good one so this one can be a spare. Then again, I prolly won't need a spare...

Yah, I know...I even have a line on a real nice 1993 6.5 TD, but it's more $ and trouble. I'm liking the 454, seems to pull pretty hard, just gotta get it to smog.

Don't know if this has been covered because I don't have 10 hours to read this beast of a thread but thats not a solution for smog... eventually they will check to make sure it's still a diesel.... then what? I guess you could swap the diesel in if that did ever happen but once they find a gas motor your pretty much screwed they'll hound you to make sure your not breaking the rules.

The idea was to run the 6.5. Trying to reg a truck as a diesel and run a gas engine can cost you a very hefty fine I hear.

Im glad you got back on the road.. i was about to head on the road and come help you out... Im glad that dude stopped and helped you. So when are you going to get them mounted? send me some pics bro..
I greatly appericate the doors!
The door that looked perfectly fine was the one that needed a little persuasion to close, the dented one fit perfect.

yeah thanks andy.. I was told they were off a rolled rig.. any pics of that???

gonna go try to in MOAB at blazer bash . if i get my truck semi ready in time.no pics of the rolled rig , i got them that way .

Well, got some cash flow. Will know shortly about the condition of the engine. Partially dependent on that, I may drop a '97 Vortec BB in it. WOOOOOT!

Input?? Done some searching...

Does anyone have any definitive info on engine swapping in CA? If I go Vortec, does the truck have to smog like a Vortec truck or an '80 truck? I've heard you have to go by whichever is newer, engine or truck. :dunno:

No difinitive answer but I am sure it is the year of the engine. Should not be a problem though it still has heavy duty emissions not like the 1/2 ton stuff.:D

Nice build. Couldn't you take the vortec 454 and put the Q-jet on it? Tell em it's the stock engine? Not sure about all of the smog stuff myself, trying to figure it all out as a new AZ resident. Should be able to rebuild the 454 you already have for a fair price being a machinist and all I'd imagine. With an RV cam, edel manifold, and good q-jet you shouldn't have any problems. Those vortec heads flow real well though. I'd go SRW and shortbed personally.

It only has to beat the emmisions of the original vin/vehicle. Plus you can't delete/modify any emissions equipment. I would think that you could keep the original smog stuff from the donor vehicle and pass with no problem.
