my friend has a 454 with 450hp and 550ft lbs. or so, he wants to put a lockright in his 14ff but we dont know if the lockright can handle the power...hes really aiming not to take the gears out and have to re-install the gears, so anywho....does anyone have experience with lockrights and some horse-power?

if your worried about it, just buy a detroit. you dont have to change the gears on a 14 bolt detroit. its like a lunchbox locker.

The only thing you need on a 14 b ff is a dial indicator and a stand both of these can be bought from harbor freight for under 30 bucks all you have to reset is backlash and that is done easily. The detroit is pretty inexpensive as far as detroits go so if there is a question go for the detroit

you dont need to reset the backlash, just remember it when you take it out.

wow...i thought all the gizmos u need for installing gears were much more expensive....ill let him know that, thanks for the info guys:waytogo:

Please listen to what Masiony is saying. You don't need gizmos, you don't need to install gears. The detroit is a locker which normally replaces the carrier, causing you to have to set up gears. The 14 bolt detroit is the exception to that rule. You DON'T have to set up gears or have any special tools. Just need a socket set. Do a search on installing a detroit in a 14 bolt. It's a VERY easy job, and requires no special tools. The locker can also be found for $350 or less, so there's no reason to buy a lock right for a 14 bolt.
