454 build, tell me what you think.

Oh and that manifold won't work well with those peanut heads since you're going from a larger runner in the intake to a smaller runner in the head. This causes your flow to decrease even more.

So would my stock intake manifold work better with these heads than the Holly intake? If so than I could shelf it for now and put it on after I get differant heads.
O and the 200rwhp mentioned above was with a bone stock 30 over 454, with my increased compression ratio and cam I should be able to get a little better than that. J

The engine will still run fine with the alum. intake. It would help if you gasket matched the heads to allow smoother flow but if you're planning on replacing the heads down the road then I wouldn't bother.

Even with a higher CR and a "healthy" cam, I can maybe see 50hp at the most. Keep in mind the max RPM's those stop working is 4500. A cam that was meant for higher RPM will hurt more than it help.

Thanks Shawn. Ya, a big cam would be pissing in the wind. The cam I am using is the least radical of the comp extreme 4x4 line. I will use the Holly intake and look into matching as you said. J

Nice write up on the 496 build Shawn. Sorry It didn't work out in the long term, any idea why the main bearing spun? Damn, 4 bolts are hard to find. The Scat 496 kit was one I look into when I was picking out a rotating asymbley, the cost was good at around $1200 but everything else needed to make it work would have put me over budget. :(

Well if I can get close to 300hp and 400fp at the flywheel I think I can have some fun with it. I might even try to pass it off as a stock motor if the mood hits me.;) J.
