454 question

Gasket covers them. also, at what RPM does your small block beat a beat block? 8500??
I never said it would beat a big block. I said MY sbc makes twice the hp as the bbc I took out. Stock gen v bbc makes 210 hp. My sbc stroker makes 420.

here it is back on page #2

Cant really compare a stock big block with a stroker. But it doesn't take much to wake up a 454....

So the ideal solution would be a set of aluminum heads, but since that's also an expensive solution, do you all think stuffing some steel wool in there is a good idea?

Don't need aluminum heads. They are nice, flow great and are lite, but not needed for a truck. Last 454 I built had 781 heads, roughly 10:1, 268 cam, aftermarket intake and manifolds. Tho it was in a car, it was a torque monster. Cost me $2500 to build, including machining, balancing and assembly. Had an engine building tell, " you could put a flower pot in place of a piston in a big block and still make power".

@b454rat making power isn’t the issue.

@mrk5 If it’s really a problem then I’d look at finding a set of intake gaskets that would cover the holes.

hey man @mrk5 i can help . i have a perfect running brand new L#1 sbc that has no intake open holes showing . i will trade you even up for your holey 454 .

Not enough of a problem to make it worth pulling the intake. Just have to be annoyingly careful when messing with fasteners in that area.

You could go redneck and put a silicone plug over the hole. DON'T TRY TO FILL IT!
