454 Swap

What torque converter have y'all used to bolt up to a TH350 all the torque converters I've found only work with the TH450.

Torque converter issue was because it was a 305 in there. got it worked out now, starting to wrap up the swap now just a few more questions.

I'm looking at getting windstar fans, where should I look at getting them? Just a local pick-a-part? Also what air filter do y'all use? I just bought a cheapo Edelbrock one but its open all the way around and thats not gonna work when I hit a puddle or mud hole, the one that was on the 305 had a closed in case that had a hose to the grille. Anyone know a place taht sells something similar to that?

I get my electric fans from the junk yard. The 305 air filter housing will fit on that 454.

Well I havent tried but I didn't think it would since I'm going from a 2 barrel POS carb to a 4 barrel truck avenger

I've found a Windstar fan setup on ebay its brand new in box and comes with the fans, shroud, and wiring for $98 shipped. Think I should go for it?

Oh I assumed it was a 4bbl 305. Just buy one at a salvage yard, I bet they would have 100s. I like the tall element 80s 305 housing.

Personnally I perfer the stock engine driven but yes that sounds like a good deal.

Alright got the engine up and idleing. Went to put it in gear and it's not catching.

Wrong torque converter?

Is there a secret to making it fill up? Filled the tranny with fluid and it's showing up on the dip sticks. But it is a new torque convertor so it needed fluid.

I think you are supposed to fill the converter before you install it. So you might have an air pocket in it.

The torque converter holds at least two or three quarts of fluid, I think. How much did you put in so far?

I've put 4 1/2 in and it's showing full, the engine will idle forever would that not work out the air pockets? Or is there a way to do it?

was this trans empty of fluid....it should hold close to 10qt. when full and warm. If you put a convertor in, it might take up to half of that depending on size of convertor.

Could the guys at O'Reilly have given me the wrong torque converter? Item number is PRO BM3 but can't find it on their website.

All of the torque converters I find on the website though say does not work with TH350c, made for THM400 and THM350. What is the TH350c?

The torque converter needs to be fill by itself before you put it on. You need to pull the tranny back out and then fill the torque converter. I am running this setup in my blazer as well.

The 350C was a lockup torque convertor model and had an electrical connector above the shifter shaft.

Would this cause it not to grab/go into gear? I'll give it a shot tonight after I get off work and post up!

One of my buddies says it could be caused by the transmission front pump being broken? Any ideas on that?
