I have a mild 454 and a monster 700r4 in a 1991 K5. I ordered a custom chip and am having bad luck with it. In closed loop it runs ok except for some detonation at 3/4 throttle. I think I can fix that with fuel psi and bigger injectors that I allready have. In open loop it blows fuel out of the exhaust bad. It flodded itself so bad fuel pooled up on the throttle blades and caught fire when it backfired. I bought a pocket programmer and other stuff from GMC truck here http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=296748

I tried to save a bin from the custom chip using the pocket programmer in tuner pro but I must not be doing it right.

I have a wideband o2 installed along with a heated o2.
open loop air fuel ratio is like 10 to 1.

closed loop crosses rich and lean and seems good.

Is it possible to work with the program that is on my chip or do I need to make a new one?

Thanks guys I have been reading all night and I cant find an answer

OK looks like my custom chip is wasted?? all the parameters were 0. I was able to save bin files from some of chips GMC Truck gave me. I able to burn a copy of the amur0055 bin file that was in another thread. Thats all for tonigt

So you was able to "read" the chips I sent you but you can't "read" the chip you have? If the chip you have is toast it would show a "blinking" check engine light as soon as you turn on the key. Do you have a 7747 ECM? Diffrent ECM's take diffrent masks to read the info. All the chips I sent you were from 7747 ECM's.

Well all i see is 0 for all the values? the file is 17kb. The ecm is a 7747. Thanks for all the extras that you sent.

Getting a starter bin is not an issue.

7747 bin file is 4k so 17kb won't work... what XDF file are you using for TunerPro?

How was the truck running before you got this custom chip?

What was need for custom chip?

10 to 1 AFR is as low as most AFR gauges go so you could be even richer. What is your fuel pressure?

What kind of chip are you trying to burn? You need a UV light to erase stock chips and if done right can be erased and burned but it is not easy...

Hey eagle mark, he bought all my chip burning stuff so he has the UV eraser. I also sent him a copy of the $42 XDF that I was using so he should be good there. Can't explain the 17kb file size? All mine was 4kb as well. I think he will get it figured out cause I did but it takes a little time to learn what it is your looking at.

As you probably know UV erasing is a touchy procedure and not always sucessful, had many a stock UV chip die... I have some aftermarket new chips that are more reliable for multiple UV erasing and re burning.

Getting offsets for burning the chip have to also be spot on.

But now that he has a 17k bin file? Don't know how that happened unless his offsets were wrong and he copied the chip and a bunch of blank space. Then of course it would not look right in TunerPro with the mask because all the information has moved.

Unless he UV erased the chip he bought the info is still there, just have to read it correctly to 4k with offsets...

Yup takes some time but it's not rocket science. Computer sceince would be good! :D But not neccessery...

What was need for custom chip? High horse 454

10 to 1 AFR is as low as most AFR gauges go so you could be even richer. What is your fuel pressure? mine will read from 8 to 1. I can set the psi anywhere I want. I have went from 5 to 20psi withan aeromotive vrfpr. I have an edelbrock 255 lph pump

What kind of chip are you trying to burn? I just want it to run right.

I ran the chip I burned with the amur0055 file. I think its one of yours. It starts and idles much better. I did not drive it yet. I do not have EGR or EST. I have a stock replacement MSD dist and all the stock parts, but no knock sensor. I thought the BBC did not use them?

The AMUR is not mine but a stock GM.

You do have an EST in distributor, but I think you mean ESC whick goes with knock sensor. Some BB had them and some did not.

If that bin still has knock on look for "KNK - Min CTS to Enable" and raise temp to disable. Then look for error code and uncheck.

Find the EGR enable temp to disable, raise it all the way. Then look for error code and uncheck.

how do I try to erase chips? Thank you

This was the best try so far. idle is kinda low no big deal. I do get a lean pop going from part throttle criuse to wfo. as soon as the fuel catches up its fine. afr at wfo is around 12 to 1. idle is 13 to 15 and rapidly changing. I set fp to 12psi and disconnected VRFPR. it seemed to surge more with the fuel psi changing from 10 to 15psi. thanks guys!!

Sneak up to amount of time needed under UV light. Mine takes 5-8 minutes IIRC? Don't use it much as I tune live with ECM that has a Moates G2 adapter in it, when done I burn one new chip and install it in origanal ECM. I found some of these chips new and bought the last 100 the guy had.

So 5 minutes and check to see if blank, if not add another minute, rinse and repeat. You'll find the time needed for your eraser.

What chips? I have ST, stock are AMD and I think less time?

Unless this engine needs huge amounts of fuel for WOT HP then no need for VFPR. Stick to 12-13 and tune. Should be there on low end anyway, then raise with loss of vacuum for more fuel.

i do not know what they are

Check the chips I sent you there is a trick to burning them as well. I marked some of them cause the voltage is diffrent between a 2732 and a 2732A chip the PPIII software will point out the voltage to use for burning the chips. I never damaged one using the wrong voltage but it will not work, just erase and try again with the proper voltage. You will figure all this out but it will take time to learn.

I erased one today. It only took a couple minutes. I also lost one. I set it on the floor on a test drive. It fell out of a rust hole. LOL

It's worked great. I need to bolt in the seats so I can get some good logs. I have. Changed the ve table three times so far. It gets better each time. I got 18 chips from amazon. Com. 2.50 each
